It is a long time coming:

David Ortiz has been benched by Terry Francona and as much as I hate to say it, deservedly so, on the heels of that frustrating and pitiful performance last night.(Thursday, may 14 v Angels) There isn't more than a handful of even the toughest Red Sox fans that are capable of exhibiting happiness at this move nor ones who do not want to see Big Papi come back like the beast of old when pitchers shook as he strolled slowly to the batters box. However this is not a question of perception shaping reality at it's individual brushes end indifferent to others, no this is the actual reflection of reality in regards to statistical data period! Ortiz is batting a dismal .208 with 0, zero, home-runs. Is David simply in the midst of his worst ever slump, one in which patience and adjustment will be his Rosetta Stone or has his skills atrophied to the extent that usefulness is a past-tense. Whatever has hold of Big Papi will be discovered most likely by his biggest supporters, team-mates, coaches and Manager who possess a genuine love for this man. After-all David Ortiz is still a man first and a ballplayer second. Rest up Papi!
