The struggles of Adam LaRoche have been well documented this season, many wondering if age has caught up to him. But LaRoche recently said that his ADD medicine has caused him to lose a great deal of weight this season. This brings up the question, how has this affected LaRoche’s play on the field? First of all, his choice in bat size has changed as the season has progressed. Eventually, LaRoche realized his loss of weight had resulted in the inability to swing his heavy model of a bat. Because of this, LaRoche switched to teammate Jayson Werth’s bat which resulted in better hitting for a while. However, even this began to slow down eventually and LaRoche was left looking for more answers. LaRoche’s usual practice regimen has also been thrown off this season. Usually, he would take batting practice with his teammates before every game, but this year, that has not been an option. He has needed to try anything to avoid more weight loss, even if that means giving up additional practice time. One could argue that LaRoche’s lack of daily routine has resulted in struggles at the plate. Adam Laroche The weight loss stems from a loss of appetite. This could possibly, result in a lack of energy come game time. With a lack of a warm up and a lack of food prior to the game, LaRoche may not be physically or mentally ready once the game starts. Whether the struggles of LaRoche stem from his ADD medicine or not is not known, but I am sure LaRoche and doctors are going to work on this during the offseason and see if they can find a medicine that works well on controlling his ADD but provides less side effects. Actually, the Washington Nationals should hope this contributing to his struggles at the plate because it is much easier to fix than the fact that he is getting older. Somehow, the Nationals need LaRoche’s play to improve because he could have a big impact on this club come next season.
