PLAYERS: Allen Webster
TEAMS: Boston Red Sox
There aren't many spot starts that fans get as excited for as they did when Allen Webster was called upon to take the mound against the Twins Wednesday night. Webster went from the young gun slinger to another Pawtucket hand me down in less than 24 hours against Minnesota. Webster was chased after pitching just 1 2/3 innings and being charged with 8 earned runs last night. Certainly not the performance any fans or especially the Red Sox were hoping for. Had he had a decent start Webster may still be on the 40 man roster and getting ready for his next go at it against the Blue Jays. Webster gave up 3 doubles, 2 home runs and walked 3 against a Minnesota team whose bats have come alive in this series. Here's Webster post game comments; The team did all they could to help me out,” “I just went back out there, and if I had put up a zero (in the second inning), we probably would have won the game. I didn’t.”“I had to make a pitch here or there with every one of my pitches, and e...

Webster struggles, Twins blowout Sox 15-8

What started out as a promising, classic battle of offenses, turned into an absolute pitching debacle. Unfortunately, the Red Sox were on the wrong end tonight. Allen Webster was promoted from the minors again, hoping to follow up his previous encouraging start. This was also considered to be a possible test to see if he may be a suitable replacement for Felix Doubront. Everything...

Allen Webster Shows He’s Not Quite Big League Ready, But ‘Rome Was Not Built in One Day’

BOSTON — Allen Webster missed out on a golden opportunity Wednesday. But the 23-year-old’s ugly outing painted a clear picture of why the Red Sox still need to be patient. Webster is just two starts into his big league career, yet we’ve seemingly seen it all. Webster pitched six solid innings while demonstrating tremendous poise and mound presence during his first start back...

Why Webster For Doubront Swap Makes Sense

Allen Webster is making his second start of his major league career Wednesday night against the Minnesota Twins, and this one has a little more spice to it than his last one. Why? Instead of filling in as a spot starter in the April 21 double header against the Kansas City Royals, he is nudging out Félix Doubront out of the starting rotation. Joel Hanrahan, of course, overshadowed...

Breaking News: Allen Webster will be in the Red Sox bullpen tonight

Scott Levesque Managing Editor If the TLC network was looking for a new trauma series perhaps they should place a call to the Boston Red Sox bullpen. At this point the Sox starting rotation has been put on notice: Either go deep into the game or bit your finger nails in the dugout as you watch the next relief pitcher physically break down in front of your eyes. After last night...

Red Sox recall Allen Webster and place Joel Hanrahan on the Disabled List

Red Sox Shakeup   After Monday’s dramatic win, The Red Sox made a flurry of moves that started with placing closer Joel Hanrahan on the disabled list and calling up righty Allen Webster from Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday. Hanrahan has been hit with the injury bug and this will be his second stint on the disabled list in the young season. He is 0-1 with four saves, a 9.82 ERA,...

Red Sox call up reliever Jose De La Torre from Pawtucket

After seven long years pitching in the minor leagues and going through Tommy John Surgery in 2008, Jose De La Torre will finally get his chance to pitch in the majors. On Thursday, the Boston Red Sox optioned pitcher Allen Webster, who struggled against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday allowing eight runs in less than two innings, to make room for De La Torre. Since being acquired...

Allen Webster Has Opportunity to Make His Mark After Injuries Shake Up Red Sox Bullpen (Video)

The Red Sox bullpen seemed to be in pretty good shape so far this season, until closers Andrew Bailey and Joel Hanrahan were both placed on the disabled list on Monday. Right-hander Junichi Tazawa will close games until either Bailey or Hanrahan is healthy enough to return. The shakeup in the back of the bullpen has had an effect on the starting rotation as well. Fourth starter...

Boston Red Sox Disable Joel Hanrahan, Recall Allen Webster

The Boston Red Sox have placed right-handed closer Joel Hanrahan on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right forearm. This is a major blow as a few days ago the organization also lost Andrew Bailey for a minimum of a few weeks. To take Hanrahan’s spot on the active roster, Boston has decided to recall right-handed pitcher Allen Webster from their Triple-A Pawtucket minor...

Dugout Digest - not ready for primetime

After a rainout a couple of weeks ago against the Royals, the Red Sox called up prospect Allen Webster for a spot start, and he pitched relatively well in the 5-4, ten inning Kansas City loss. Webster was called up again for a start on Wednesday, and the results were...not exactly up to snuff. In his brief outing against the Twins, Webster recorded only five outs, and gave up eight...

Daily FanDuel Picks: May 9, 2013

Umm…whoops.I guess there’s a reason you don’t pick starting pitchers that cost $2,600. Allen Webster got rocked for eight earned runs in just 1.2 innings and completely tanked any chances my team had of finishing in the money. The elite offense I purchased didn’t do much with Mitch Moreland of all people posting my lineup’s only notable contributions. All-in-all, what a...

Pedro Ciriaco Playing Third in Place of Injured Will Middlebrooks As Allen Webster Takes Mound

They say you can’t have good pitching without good defense, and Allen Webster might put that mantra to the test on Wednesday with Pedro Ciriaco manning the hot corner. Ciriaco could be seeing some increased playing time at third base in the coming days and, after a shaky defensive performance on Tuesday night against the Twins, will certainly be the focus of some scrutiny as he...

Four Bases: Twins 15, Red Sox 8

April spoils have brought May turmoil. The Red Sox have now lost four out of their last five, and their pitching looks as thin as ever. There was no consolation prize either – David Ortiz went 0-5, ending his 27 game hitting streak. Here are the Four Bases: First Base: To say the least, Allen Webster‘s start was not the one that John Farrell was looking for. Despite his very...
