Found July 25, 2012 on Reds Minor Leagues:
The Reds and the Pensacola Blue Wahoos signed a 4 year extension to their player development contract, meaning the Reds will be with the Blue Wahoos through at least 2016. I am a fan of this move by the Reds. It keeps them on the East Coast and for me at least, means a trip to Florida each year. Jim Callis listed his Reds Top 10 prospects over at Baseball America earlier this week. It should be noted that Callis is not the writer who does the Reds for their year end list or their Top 30 list, but is the editor for the lists. Billy Hamilton Robert Stephenson Tony Cingrani Daniel Corcino Nick Travieso Didi Gregorius Kyle Lotzkar Jesse Winker Tanner Rahier Jeff Gelalich While I would have a different looking list at this point, most of the same names are there. What is interesting are the other 5 names he said he considered, which didn’t include Henry Rodriguez but did include a pair of teenage pitchers. Tony Cingrani was bound to eventually have a rough game and after 13 months as a...

Breaking down the state of the Reds

No game today? No problem. Today is a rather strange day for the first-place Cincinnati Reds (58-40). The reason for this is they aren't playing a baseball game. Yes, it is indeed a well-deserved and much-needed off day for the club -- their first in two weeks and their last for another 18 days. So, while the players relish in their treasured day of relaxation, the fans...

Reds win 4-error game

Last Game Homer Bailey put in another excellent performance, but was denied his fifth win of the season by a blown save at the hands of Logan Ondrusek. Despite some questionable defense (the Reds had 4 errors in this game), they did come back to win the game and sweep the series at the last possible moment. Final score: 5-3. Next Game The Reds have an off-day today. They’re currently...

It's not over until Stubbs says so: Reds rally again, win 5-3

Drew Stubbs, ninth inning hero machine. Talk about a game full of ups and downs. The Reds were on a night-long trip on the Coco Coaster, but in the end they wound up on the right side of things by taking a 5-3 win over the Astros. For all the particulars, click the lovely link button below.  Two three-run ninth innings in the span of 24 hours helped the...

Reds riding defense to the top of the league

When the Cincinnati Reds make an error, there is shock on the field, shock in the dugout and shock in the grandstands.Nostradamus must be right the world is coming to an end. The Reds just dont make errors. Nearly never. There are two concrete reasons, written in cement, why the Reds currently reside atop the National League Central standings. Rolling Reds get a day off

The Cincinnati Reds went into the All-Star break on a positive note. They haven't slowed down since the second half started. The NL Central leaders will try to extend their longest winning streak in two seasons to eight when they face the Colorado Rockies on Friday night. The Reds (58-40) won three straight at San Diego to end the first half one game out of first place. Cincinnati...

Aroldis Chapman Doing Crazy Strikeout Things

Aroldis Chapman is hot. His fastball tops 100 mph. His slider is nearly unhittable. And he’s on the verge of breaking two strikeout records. In 47.2 innings pitched through Wednesday, the Reds closer has racked up 16.99 strikeouts per nine innings, the highest in the majors this season for pitchers with at least 30 innings under their belt. In July, in 11.1 innings pitched, his...

Reds not worried about overworking their Fab Five

The Reds are only team in the majors to use only five starters this year. That's been a good thing, as far as results. The Reds are third in the National League in ERA at 3.28. But the club's four young starters -- Johnny Cueto (26), Homer Bailey (26), Mat Latos (24) and Mike Leake (24) -- are on track to for career-highs in innings. "The innings are not a concern...

Long Live Drew Stubbs

Anyone who has spent time following the Reds since 2010 knows the immense frustration and hopelessness that Drew Stubbs has provided us with. The roller coaster ride really settled this year and the thought was no longer about Stubbs not reaching the supposed superstardom some scouts saw possible when he was drafted in the 1st round out of Texas. Reds fans simply wondered if this...

Another Reds TV conflict Saturday

Reds fans in Columbus and Lima will need to get a little creative to see Saturday’s game on t.v. this week. Again, the Reds game conflicts with the Columbus Crew soccer game (not to be confused with The Cutting Crew, which was over in 1993), and the soccer will get the primary FOX Sports Ohio coverage. If this is you, you can check out the specifics of which game is covered where...
