After yet another loss last night, the Boston Red Sox look to even up the series in the middle game of a three-game set with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at historic Fenway Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Angels television market, you can catch the game on Fox Sports West. If you can't catch the television broadcast, you can always listen to it on the Red Sox radio network. It's becoming old hat for Clay Buchholz as he looks to get the Red Sox back on the winning side of things in his 22nd start of 2012. In his previous 21 starts, Buchholz is 11-3 with a 4.19 ERA. He last faced the Angels in 2011 when he picked up a win after allowing two runs in 6.2 innings. Buchholz has made seven career starts against the Halos and is 5-2 with a 3.95 ERA. Five of those starts have come at the Fens where he is 4-1 with a 3.98 ERA. Jered Weaver looks to keep the Angels in...

Angels knock out Buchholz, Red Sox for 7-3 victory

BOSTON -- Right-hander Clay Buchholz had been emerging as the Boston Red Sox ace this season after a string of strong starts. That changed Wednesday night as the Los Angeles Angels roughed him up at Fenway Park on their way to a 7-3 win. Buchholz (11-4) lasted just 5 1/3 innings and matched career highs with seven earned runs and 12 hits allowed. He also surrendered a home run...

Red Sox Pitching Staff Continues Struggling in Small Sample Size of Games Since Coaching Change

BOSTON –– Two days after the Red Sox fired pitching coach Bob McClure, the pitching results haven't changed. After nearly three spotless months on the mound, Clay Buchholz experienced one of his worst outings of the season in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Angels, surrendering seven runs through 5 1/3 innings. "The ball was up in the zone," Buchholz said. "...

Red Sox News & Notes - 8/23

For the last few months whenever the Boston Red Sox have needed a big start, they've been able to count on Clay Buchholz. But for the first time in a long while, Buchholz wasn't able to deliver. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim roughed up Buchholz as they went on to beat the Red Sox 7-3. With the loss, the Red Sox fall six games below .500 to 59-65. The last time this...

Red Sox Live Blog: Clay Buchholz Remains a Bright Spot as Red Sox Battle Stumbling Angels

8 a.m. ET: Plenty has gone wrong for both the Red Sox (59-64) and Angels (63-60) this season. Both were picked to contend for their divisions. Both had big-name stars filling out their lineups and rotation. But both have played middling ball at best and have to fight through their final weeks for any hopes of making the playoffs. Of the two, the Angels have had a slightly better...

Sox Lose Their 3rd in a Row

The Sox hoped that with Clay Buchholz on the mound that they would have a chance to stop this skid and get going in the wining direction again.  Unfortunately, Buchholz didn't have his best performance and he was up against Angels ace Jered Weaver.  Buchholz has been the best pitcher in the Sox rotation for well over a month, however yesterday just wasn't his day.  Buchholz...

Jered Weaver's Recent Struggles Should Be Cause for Optimism Among Red Sox Fans (Video)

Jered Weaver takes the mound against the Sox on Wednesday, looking to stop a recent run of struggles and get back to his dominating ways. The Red Sox, however, would like no such thing to happen. Weaver hasn't been his usual stellar self the last two times out and NESN Nation's Dan Duquette has an inkling of why. Check out the video for his best guess. Join NESN Nation: In...

At Least the Jimmy Fund Had A Good Night

This one can be summed up in six words - Clay Buchholz simply didn't have it. After having gone 3-0 with a 1.53 ERA in his last 6 starts, Buchholz (pictured) gave up 7 runs on 12 hits and 1 walk in 5.1 innings in a 7-3 Red Sox loss to the Angels at Fenway Park.Angels starting pitcher Jered Weaver held Boston to 2 runs; he scattered 7 hits while striking out 5 over 7 innings...

Red Sox fall to six games under .500

The Red Sox fell to the Angels 7-3 and now have 14 losses in the month of August. The last time the Red Sox lost 14 games in August was all the way back in 2003 with Grady Little as manager. Clay Buchholz allowed a season-high and tied a career-high by allowing 12 hits in just 5 1/3 innings. The seven runs also matched a season-high for Buchholz, who allowed seven runs in his first...

Red Sox' Situational Hitting Falls Short Again, Batters May Be 'Trying to Do Too Much'

BOSTON -- There's a reason Jered Weaver is regarded among the game's elite pitchers. With base runners aboard, the 29-year-old has been known to evade the pressure and buckle down. It showed on Wednesday, as the pitcher avoided the big inning while limiting the Red Sox to seven hits and two runs en route to a 7-3 win. "I think he's had better stuff," Red Sox...

Angels 7, Red Sox 3

Jered Weaver rebounded from a terrible start by pitching seven solid innings, and the Los Angeles Angels beat the fading Boston Red Sox 7-3 on Wednesday night. Howie Kendrick hit a solo homer and Torii Hunter had a two-run single for the Angels, who have won the first two in a three-game set at Boston after getting swept in a four-game home series against Tampa Bay over the weekend...

Your Morning Dump...where ownership is angry about the players no show to Pesky's funeral

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Word from Yawkey Way is that the Sox front office hired buses to bring players, office and staff to the funeral from the ballpark to the church. The suits, we hear, were surprised and disappointed when the...

Red Sox Find That Playing From Behind is Not a Recipe for Offensive Success

Editor's note: NESN.com is going to tell the story of the 2012 Red Sox in Bobby Valentine's words. Each game day, we will select the best Valentine quote that sums up the day for the Red Sox. As much as the starting pitching of the Boston Red Sox has struggled outside of Clay Buchholz -- before Wednesday, that is -- it's kind of overshadowed the fact that the offense...

Game Recap: Team win - Angels 7, Red Sox 3

After being swept by the Tampa Bay Rays in the final series of their homestand, the Angels were looking forward to redeeming themselves on their roadtrip, beginning with a series in Boston.  August hasn't been the kindest to the Angels, but they have a taken the first two of a three game series against the Red Sox and look to sweep the team on their long road to redemption...

Have Angels regained their momentum?

Where were these guys last week? Or, for that matter, the week before that? The Angels team that defeated the Boston Red Sox for a second time in two days bears no resemblance to the team that fumbled through the first 19 days of this month. This team looks more like the one Angels fans saw in May and June and part of July. Perhaps most significant, right-hander Jered Weaver looked...
