Found April 16, 2013 on Sox and Dawgs:
In light of the tragic events that befell our community yesterday, the Boston Red Sox will postpone tomorrow's Open House at Fenway Park. The free event was to provide an opportunity during school vacation week for families and children to wander the concourses, see displays, and stroll on the warning track.  It will be rescheduled for later this season. "We all personally feel the grief of the horrifying tragedy that struck our community on Patriot's Day," said Red Sox President/CEO Larry Lucchino.  "Our hearts are with our fellow Bostonians and visitors from around the world who were here for one of Boston's most spectacular and time-honored events.  In the coming days, we will join with others to find ways to show the victims of this heartless, cowardly act our sincere support, and to demonstrate to all, our community's unity, strength, and resilience. "Fan safety has been and will continue to be of paramount importance. The club's ...

Louisville, Vanderbilt Both Plan to Wear Special Uniforms to Honor Boston Marathon, First Responders (Photo)

The Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and eventually Patriots will all find ways to remember the 2013 Boston Marathon in coming days. But as the Chicago Tribune sports section showed so well Tuesday morning, fans and sports teams honoring the heroes and victims of Marathon Monday aren’t limited to Boston. The Louisville and Vanderbilt baseball teams both tweeted Tuesday afternoon that they...

David Ortiz scratched from Triple-A start with heel soreness

David Ortiz has missed his last two rehab assignment starts.  On Sunday, he was scratched due to illness.  Yesterday, Ortiz was a late scratch because of heel soreness.  He is scheduled to play an afternoon game today, but his status is uncertain to this point. Evan Drellich of MassLive.com says the heel soreness is considered mild, but it is a setback nonetheless.  The Red...

Red Sox Postpone Fenway Park Open House in Wake of Boston Marathon Tragedy

The Boston Red Sox have announced that the Fenway Park open house, originally scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed. No makeup date has been announced yet. Last April, Fenway welcomed about 54,000 fans through its gates, free of charge, to view hisorical artifacts, walk the warning track and get a few autographs. The event was scheduled for the week when most local schools...

Napoli gives Red Sox a happy holiday

Mike Napoli drove in the winning run with a two-out double in the ninth inning and the Boston Red Sox completed a three-game sweep of the light-hitting Tampa Bay Rays with a 3-2 win on Monday. The Rays had two hits before finally showing some offensive punch in the ninth when Desmond Jennings led off with a single, stole second and scored the tying run on a single by Ben Zobrist...

Alfredo Aceves’ Outing Turns Rocky, But Strong Start Gives Red Sox Chance to Win (Video)

The eyes of many Bostonians were trained on TD Garden on Wednesday, but the Red Sox took the field that night, as well. Starter Alfredo Aceves tossed five scoreless innings against the Indians before running into some trouble in the sixth — allowing homers to both Jason Giambi and Carlos Santana in the frame — but the Sox, who had built a 5-0 lead entering the bottom of the...

David Ortiz was ‘very angry’ over Boston Marathon terrorist attack

David Ortiz is a Boston icon. Needless to say, the Red Sox superstar was dumbfounded and angered by the Boston Marathon bombings.

Jackie Robinson Day – Heightened Alert After Incident In Boston

I was about to start working on an article about Jackie Robinson when I received word that there had been 2 explosions at the Boston Marathon. There have been no reports of any threats to any areas outside of Boston, but the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has put the public on heightened alert. The Dodgers have a highly visible presence of LAPD officers at every game. ...

Red Sox rally in 9th to beat Rays 3-2

Mike Napoli drove in the winning run with a two-out double in the ninth inning and the Boston Red Sox completed a three-game sweep of the light-hitting Tampa Bay Rays with a 3-2 win on Monday. The Rays had two hits before finally showing some offensive punch in the ninth when Desmond Jennings led off with a single, stole second and scored the tying run on a single by Ben Zobrist...

Red Sox’ Strong Bullpen Enables Team to Grind Out Wins, Which Was Needed in Victory Over Indians

The game was slowly slipping away from the Red Sox. Alfredo Aceves had just given up back-to-back home runs, and the Indians, who once looked down and out, were on the verge of seizing control. Enter the Red Sox’ bullpen. With the game hanging in the balance, Junichi Tazawa came on in relief and retired three straight hitters in the sixth inning, keeping the Red Sox’ lead intact...

Kevin Youkilis Says Hearing of Boston Marathon Tragedy ‘Ate Me Up’

Teams across Major League Baseball showed their support for Boston on Tuesday night with thoughtful gestures. But for a few members of opposing teams, the somber moments weren’t just for the Red Sox and their fans — they also helped those who once played in Boston and still hold the city close to their hearts. Indians manager Terry Francona and Yankees third baseman Kevin Youkilis...

A Boston Marathon Sports Media Notebook

On this day after the horrific bombings at the Boston Marathon, let us give you a taste of some of the writing from the city and from elsewhere. Let's provide a sample of what has been said about Monday's tragedy. Boston Globe columnist Kevin Cullen writes that a perfect day was ruined by a coward. Dan Shaughnessy of the Globe says the Marathon will never be the same...

4 real? Four at bats that changed the game. Red Sox vs Rays 4-15-13

Game 12: Red Sox win with a walk off, 3-2 It's always great to sweep a strong team in your division. While the Rays aren't scoring any runs this year, their pitching has been phenomenal. The Red Sox staff matched the Rays staff and went further, sweeping the Rays in three games and having their starters go deep in all three games. The Red Sox now stand alone in first place...

The Theraputic Value of Sport

It’s still somewhat difficult to process what happened yesterday in the Boston marathon and believe it as real. What was most shocking about it was the unexpected nature of the attack, the people there were supposed to be safe, out of harm’s way. You do not expect a marathon to be targeted that way but it was and whether this act was done by a domestic or foreign person or group...

Afternoon Red Sox Delight - 4/17

After winning last night, the Boston Red Sox look to continue their winning streak tonight in the second game of a three-game set with the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field in Cleveland, OH. My prediction is the Red Sox win this game 6-4. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. If you live in the Red Sox television market you can catch the game on NESN. If you live in...
