Sorry Texas, but Trey Ball won't be hooking any horns anytime soon. The number seven pick in the 2013 MLB draft signed with the Red Sox yesterday for a bonus of $2.75 million.
Ball signed his contact in Boston and the Red Sox organization rolled out the, proverbial, red carpet for their highest draft pick since Trot Nixon (1993) - including an infamous Duck Tour, a day around Fenway Park, and a heavy dose of Red Sox star Dustin Pedroia.
"[They were all saying] hurry up and get here," Ball said. "Dustin Pedroia was like, 'Hurry up so I can retire!' and all that. He was giving me a hard time, but it was a good time." Ball continued, "It's been amazing. It's been a blast out there with all the guys," Ball said. "Growing up, all I wanted to do was be a baseball player. Being able to potentially fulfill that, it's a great honor."
