While the Mets continue to search for a closer, not all games will be won in the 9th inning. Newly acquired Luis Ayala made his Mets debut in the 7th inning. Oliver Perez didn't have his best stuff tonight but found a way to limit the damage to a three run third. Perez ran out of gas in the 7th when he put runners on the corners while only recording one out. So many times this year we've seen our pen give up insurance runs in close games. But tonight Ayala came in and closed the door, stranding the runners without allowing a hit or walk. The way the game played out the pen held long enough for the offense to rally and win the game. If Ayala can provide this kinda presence on a regular basis, then the once Nationals Set-up man can be just what this team has been looking for. At least for tonight Ayala deserves a warm welcome aboard......
