When Woody Williams left the spacious confines of Petco Park for the bandbox of Minute Maid Park, the Padres had a void to fill. They needed another starting pitcher that could file for social security. They filled that void today by signing Greg Maddux to a one year deal. Maddux bolsters a pretty solid rotation that includes Jake Peavy and Chris Young. Unfortunately, Mike Piazza and David Wells won't be returning to San Diego, which would have created enormous backup at the local rest home. One thing is for sure. Greg Maddux is going to dominate those gaps at Petco Park.
