The Majors Detroit:
Well the last two days have been quite a roller coaster for Tiger fans.
On Monday, they watched beloved Tiger Prince Fielder surprisingly win the 2012 State Farm Home Run Derby. He put on a show, has a he hit ball after ball in to the fountains all around Kauffman Stadium. As he has in the past, Prince had his two sons with him which made it all the more special for him to win it. He is the first player to win the home run derby one for each league. He is a little bit of what the Detroit Free Press had to say about Prince.
“After he hit just five homers in the first round, Fielder unloaded for 11 in the second round and 12 in the finals against Toronto’s Jose Bautista.
He averaged 432 feet per blast, maxed out with two homers of 476 feet and became the first player to win the derby in both leagues. He also joined Ken Griffey Jr. as the only players to win the derby more than once. Griffey won it three times.
Fielder recalled how as a child he would visit Griffey’s house.
“My dad wo...

Over the last week, there has been a bunch of hullabaloo over the relationship between Tigers ace Justin Verlander and Sports Illustrated swimsuit goddess Kate Upton. The website Busted Coverage scrounged up some evidence of Upton “hanging all over” Verlander in Shelby Township this past weekend after the two attended an Aerosmith concert. Friday night, Upton attended the...
Detroit -- There were great expectations for the Detroit Tigers coming into the 2012 season after they signed Prince Fielder, one of the top free agents on the market.
Virtually every baseball expert picked the Tigers to repeat as Central Division champions.
But, as the old saying goes, the games are not played on paper.
It became clear from the second game of the season that...

It's the fifth inning of the Tigers-Orioles game, Tigers left fielder Quintin Berry makes this great catch to rob Wilson Betemit of a homer. This really wasn't a game saver, as the Tigers led 7-1 at the time, but it got starter Doug Fister out of the inning unscathed. Pretty good stuff from Berry, who has come out of nowhere to be a...
The Tigers started the second half of the season much like they finished the first half, getting some good offense and good pitching as they defeated the Baltimore Orioles 7-2 from Camden Yards.
Doug Fister who looks to be returning to form went seven strong innings allowing one run (earned) on 3 hits while walking zero and striking out eight. He earned his third win of the season...
Justin Verlander is arguably the best pitcher in the world right now. While there may have been some doubt as to who should have started for the National League, nobody had any issues with Verlander -- the reigning AL MVP -- taking the mound against the opposing league's best hitters. So, it may have come to a surprise to many that Verlander was shelled in his one inning of work...
Im driving on a fairly major thoroughfare in Detroit last week and the cars in front of me slow down. As we proceed, I see a very large, almost frighteningly so, box turtle having just started to make his (or her I mean, who really knows box turtle genders, other than other box turtles?) way across this street.
The thought was immediate: Man, thats confidence -- or...
Miguel Cabrera and Jhonny Peralta homered, Doug Fister pitched seven innings of three-hit ball, and the Detroit Tigers beat the Baltimore Orioles 7-2 on Friday night for their sixth straight victory.
Brennan Boesh had two RBIs for the Tigers, who moved three games over .500 (45-42) for the first time since April 24, when they were 10-7.
Cabrera hit his 19th home run in the fifth...
Previously on Outside the Boxscore, we mentioned the rumors that swimsuit model Kate Upton and Justin Verlander might be a couple.
The folks over at the Detroit's rock station WRIF decided to do this parody song called "Upton Girl":

The Detroit Tigers technically hit the midpoint of their season on July 3, when they dropped an 8-6 slugfest to the Minnesota Twins to fall to 39-42. Since then, the Tigers have reeled off five straight — enough to head … Continue reading →
Wait 'til you see his ping pong ball trick!
We’re playing FanDuel fantasy baseball again this week, and one way or another I’ll end up feeling like Justin Verlander. If I win, I’m the Justin Verlander who gets to shack up with Kate Upton. If I lose horribly, I’m the Justin Verlander who ruined the All-Star Game.
We’re capping the league at 275 spots this week, so...
Starring in Upton Girl.
Is there any coincidence that right after news broke that Justin Verlander was dating MLB 2012 and Sports Illustrated cover girl Kate Upton, that Verlander goes out and gets trashed, giving up 5 runs in one inning in the all-star game?

Austin Jackson is flying high now -- even eclipsing the production that nearly won him AL Rookie of the Year honors in 2010.
Last year was another story. His glove still performed magic, but his bat turned to stone. And he heard the whispers that said hed become pretty ordinary, and how the Tigers werent going to be able to live...
Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun had been voted to start in four straight All-Star games playing in three of them but it took a fifth straight nomination for Braun to tally his first hit.
With a 0-for-7 history with three strikeouts in past All-Star games, Braun came to the plate in the top of the first inning on Tuesday against Detroit ace Justin Verlander looking to...
