When the Mets traded Billy Wagner to the Red Sox, reports leaked that we were receiving Chris Carter in return. Carter a 26 y/o career minor leaguer was reported to have hit at every level of the minors but because of his defensive deficiencies had been blocked from making the majors in two different organizations ( D-Backs/Red Sox).With the Red Sox the 1B was blocked by a talented and veteran infield but made his way onto the roster out of spring training as a back-up outfielder, thanks to his bat. What I have found interesting is that every report of the deal being completed is listing Carter as an outfielder and he's currently playing winter ball where he's listed as an outfielder. I thought maybe Carter was a natural outfielder who had been converted to a first baseman in an attempt to find a spot for his bat. But actually the opposite is true, Carter has an extensive history at first base and more limited exposure to the outfield.1B- five minor league seasons 320 games ...
