Earlier this year, I detailed what kind of a contract Jimmy Rollins can expect to get after this season. In this one, I’ll explore what Ryan Madson can hope for after the year.
Madson has spent the last four seasons as an underrated and extremely effective setup man, earning the nickname The Bridge to Lidge. This year, Lidge is on the 60-day DL and Madson has been doing a phenomenal job filling in.
Madson’s current numbers look like this: 2-1, 2.05 ERA, 10-10 SV, 22 IP, 24 K. If he can maintain that pace, he will be on the market for a big payday.
I used Rafael Soriano as a comparison here. Soriano is a 31-year old who just signed a three-year, $35 million deal with the New York Yankees this past offseason. Soriano has spent the last ten years in the major leagues and he’s had success as both a setup man and closer.
