On opening day 2013, Torii Hunter will be sporting a Detroit Tigers uniform as on Wednesday afternoon the 37-year-old outfielder agreed to a two-year 26 million dollar deal.
Hunter had visited Comerica Park on Tuesday, and said he wanted to play for Detroit. Hunter also told Tigers owner Mike Ilitch when he visited that he hoped this was his first and last stop.
But now that Hunter is officially a Tiger, what does he bring to the team?
Defense: Nine Gold Gloves belong to Hunter and with an outfield that already features one of the best defensive center fielders in baseball in Austin Jackson, the Tigers’ outfield defense will be one of the best in baseball.
Solid hitting: In 2012 Hunter posted a career high .313 average while hitting 16 home runs and driving in 92 RBIs. Adding his bat just makes the Tigers’ lineup even deeper one through five.
