They were supposed to be contenders last season after signing Albert Pujois to a whooping 250 million dollar contract. When that yield the desired result they went out and spent more money this time in the person of Josh Hamilton. The Angels are 4-10 and rumors abound about there being a change at manager. Manager Mike Scioscia, is feeling the pressure and part of it isn’t his fault. As one coach in another sport once said about his team “It’s fundemantally flawed” well a rotation that includes Joe Blanton, Jason Vargas and Tommy Hanson isn’t going to be able to keep the Angels in the race with Texas and Oakland, never mind the teams in the American League East like the Yankees, Rays and BlueJays. They can win alot of 9-8 games with their line up of Pujois, Tremblu, Trout and Hamilton but you need pitching both staring and bullpen and they don’t have it. It is as though Scioscia was setup to fail this season. It is a good thing that it is a long season. So the Angels have time to turn it around, Scioscia is a great man, coach and baseball mind, but with last year and this year’s expectations so high and his failure to meet them are his demise. He can’t play for these players, but he needs to be the one to motivate and manage them to reach their potential. Who will be the next Angels manager is anyone’s guess, and if Scioscia doesn’t shape up within the next few weeks, fans will find out sooner rather than later.
