Found April 22, 2013 on Baseball Hot Corner:
Matt Kemp has had a tough time getting his bat going this season and it’s no surprise that he is attracting comparisons to Albert Pujols start last year. The Los Angeles Dodgers are 18 games (8-10) into 2013 and Kemp has yet to hit a single home run. Cause for concern? Well I decided to look back and compare Kemp’s start against what Pujols did for the first 18 games of 2012. Pujols: 16-of-72 (.222) 0 HR, 4 RBI, 6 Runs, 11/6 K/BB Kemp: 16-of-68 (.235) 0 HR, 6 RBI, 7 Runs, 20/4 K/BB Aside from the strikeouts, the numbers look very similar. The comparisons are correct in that Kemp has zero confidence at the plate. The swings he has taken this year have concerned even the average fans of the team. When scouts have been asked about Kemp they elude that it might be a carryover from the shoulder injury suffered last year when he collided with an outfield wall in Colorado. His tendency to swing at bad pitches has hurt his overall approach at the plate. When Kemp’s swing is best is when he ...

Making Moves: Ted Lilly returns to claim his throne + team signs 7, loans 3

Ted Lilly will make his first start of the season on Wednesday, replacing the injured Chris Capuano, who had replaced the injured Zack Greinke. Ted Lilly will start Wednesday night’s game against the Mets, manager Don Mattingly confirmed Friday. Lilly replaces the injured Chris Capuano, who previously replaced the injured Zack Greinke. “That’s our plan,” said Mattingly. “Obviously...

Chad Billingsley out for 2013 season, slated to have Tommy John surgery

It’s official, Chad Billingsley will undergo Tommy John surgery tomorrow. Dr. Neal ElAttrache will be performing the surgery at Kerlan-Jobe in Los Angeles. Honestly, I’m pissed. How does this situation even happen? The coaches and even Billingsley himself took no responsibility. I’m sure you remember when Billingsley was diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in...

Los Angeles Dodgers, Angels not managing very well

Spring has sprung. Although in the case of the Los Angeles area baseball teams, they haven’t quite found the spring in their steps. So far, no one is pointing to Don Mattingly as the reason the Dodgers have fallen to 8-10. The Dodgers have just one win in their last seven games. Statistically, they aren’t exactly keeping company with the best of the rest. They rank 29th in the...

Billingsley to undergo Tommy John surgery

Dodgers got some bad news on Tuesday when the club revealed that Chad Billinglsey will undergo Tommy John surgery on Wednesday and is expected to miss 12 months. After an up-and-down 2012, Billingsley finally started to show signs of the player the Dodgers had signed to a 3-year, 35-million deal the year prior. From July 23 to Aug. 19 of last season Billingsley went on...

Okay, so Luis Cruz has been amazingly terrible this year, but why?

Luis Cruz has been … not-so-good in 2013. Okay, he’s been absolutely atrocious. Just terrible. Mike Petriello at Mike Scioscia’s Tragic Illness has gone through all the statistical hoops to show exactly how bad Cruz has been in 2013 (go read it, even I didn’t realize how terrible he’s been). Hint: It’s bad. 2013 lowest wOBA, min 50 PA 5. Dustin Ackley, .174 4. Clint Barmes...

L.A. has time to Dodge disaster

I came to watch the Titanic sink. And then I realized, oops, it's barely out of port. The Dodgers indeed could wind up an epic fail. On Tuesday alone, they lost right-hander Chad Billingsley to Tommy John surgery and saw ace left-hander Clayton Kershaw do the unthinkable -- issue a two-out, bases-empty walk to a reliever making his first major league plate appearance, leading...

Chad Billingsley To Miss Season

The Los Angeles Dodgers rotation received a big blow today as it was announced that starting pitcher Chad Billingsley will undergo Tommy John Surgery ending his season. Near the end of last season there was a decision to be made whether Billinsgley would have Tommy John Surgery. The other option was getting prp (platelet-rich plasma) injections that could possibly prevent the need...

Dodgers' Chad Billingsley hits DL

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed right-hander Chad Billingsley on the disabled list with right elbow soreness, leaving them short of options for their starting rotation over the next couple of weeks. Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reported that manager Don Mattingly was concerned that the discomfort was linked to last year's problem, when Billingsley missed the last two months...

Dodgers place Chad Billingsley on DL

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed starting pitcher Chad Billingsley on the 15-day DL with pain in his right elbow. Billingsley's right elbow has been a source of frustration for Billingsley over the past year, as he only made eight starts after the All-Star Break last season due to an inflammed flexor tendon and a partially torn UCL in the elbow. Going into the season,...

Chad Billingsley to undergo Tommy John surgery

Well, that was quick. Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley will undergo Tommy John surgery on Wednesday and will be out for the rest of the season. The team placed Billingsley on the DL on Sunday with pain in his right elbow, and the surgery was definitely a possibility. This just beats home the point that instead of attempting to rehab an elbow injury that may require Tommy John...

A Quick Recap of the Baltimore Series (Games 16-18)

Well, the Dodgers got healthy on Sunday, and I’m getting healthy today. The Dodgers dropped the first two games of the series in Baltimore.  After Friday night’s rainout, 7-5 and 6-1 losses bookended a day-night double header that saw the Dodgers get out to a 4-0 lead in Game 1 featuring a 3 run shot off the bat of Andre Ethier and pretty much not gain much offensive traction...

Ellis homers twice as Dodgers top Mets, 7-2

NEW YORK (AP) -- Mark Ellis lined two home runs and hit a hard grounder that sent Mets starter Jonathon Niese limping off for X-rays, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers over New York 7-2 Tuesday night. Ellis got four hits and drove in four runs. He hit his 100th career homer in the fifth inning, then connected for a tiebreaking, three-run shot with two outs in the seventh. Ellis had...

A Unique Path To A Loss

I hate games like this. When Jon Niese was hit in the ankle in the third inning by Mark Ellis and had to leave the game on Tuesday, with Clayton Kershaw on the other side, I was thinking, "well, this game is shot to hell, so I'll save my angst for what the Rangers do against the Panthers, or better yet I'll save my angst for a double dose of explosion on Thursday...

Albert Pujols Says His Foot Is ‘Hurting Real Bad’

So there does appear to be a ***** in King Albert’s armor, afterall. Albert Pujols is nursing a nasty case of plantar fasciitis as his struggling Angels team tries to stay afloat in the early part of the season. Pujols revealed to Los Angeles Times reporter Bill Shaikin “I’m dying,” and then he added “I’m hurting real bad.” The 33-year-old first baseman is slated...
