White Sox rookie Dylan Axelrod took a three-hitter into the eighth inning and Chicago spoiled the Baltimore debut of Joe Saunders, scoring seven runs off the left-hander in an 8-1 victory over the Orioles on Wednesday night. Gordon Beckham had three hits and three RBIs to help Chicago snap a five-game road losing streak. Alexei Ramirez went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and scored twice for the White Sox, who will seek a split of the four-game series on Thursday. Omar Quintanilla drove in the lone run for the Orioles, whose four-game winning streak ended. Baltimore remained 3 1/2 games behind the first-place New York Yankees in the AL East. Axelrod (2-2) allowed one run, three hits and four walks in 7 1-3 innings to earn his third career win. Recalled from Triple-A Charlotte to replace injured Gavin Floyd, the right-hander retired 13 straight batters before a one-out walk in the eighth ended his night. Obtained on Sunday in a trade that sent reliever Matt Lindstrom to Arizona, Saunders ...

White Sox wear ‘Caddyshack’ outfits before road trip (Pictures)

With Robin Ventura in his first season after replacing Ozzie Guillen and a roster that has a different look this year, nobody expected the White Sox to be in first place in the AL Central at the end of August. The division was supposed to belong to the Tigers, but Chicago has overachieved and currently leads Detroit by two games. From the look of it, they’re having fun along...

Axelrod's reward for strong start: a demotion

Dylan Axelrod had a dominant outing against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday in the Chicago White Sox's 8-1 win, and then he found himself packing his bags for Class AA Birmingham. He might want to bring only a toothbrush, because manager Robin Ventura said that the pitcher would be back on the big-league roster by next week when rosters expand. Axelrod (2-2, 4.93 ERA) went...

Saunders trade will push Baltimore Orioles into play-offs

For the first time in this whole season I, as a Baltimore Orioles fan, have hope. Despite this being one of the most successful seasons in a long time for Baltimore there has always been this aura of doubt for me. I am always a pessimist when it comes to the ball club, so even with everything going great it was hard to see a bright future. Things hit their breaking point when the...

Saunders Loses in Oriole Debut; Dylan Bundy will not be called up this season...

It was ugly last night for the Orioles, as they lost 8-1, last night at Camden Yards. They could not take advantage of a Yankees’ loss in New York; however, they still lead the Wild Card hunt along with Oakland. Virginia native Joe Saunders who was making his first start as an Oriole just was not effective on Wednesday. Saunders pretty much doomed the Orioles as he gave up four...

Revolving door has O's still in hunt

Center fielder Adam Jones was professing ignorance about the makeup of the Baltimore Orioles' ever-changing pitching staff, saying, "I don't even know what our five-man rotation is." First baseman Chris Davis, standing a few lockers away, smiled and agreed. "We have, like, a nine-man rotation," Davis said. A nine-man rotation, a 35-man roster, the fourth...

Report: Orioles Will Not Call Up Minor League Phenom Dylan Bundy for September

Orioles pitching prospect Dylan Bundy lit up the radar gun in the minors this season, but isn't expected to have a chance at testing himself in the big leagues this year. Bundy, who earned himself a reputation while dominating the minor leagues, will be sent to the team's instructional league team in September, according to Baltimore manager Buck Showalter. That should put...

Guillen says he'll be less patient with injuries

With his team in last place, Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen says he'll make at least one change in his approach next year: He'll be less patient with injured players. ''Same philosophy, less bull,'' Guillen said Wednesday. ''That's going to work better.'' As the Marlins stagger toward the end of a disappointing season, Guillen said...

Zach Britton dominates White Sox, is then demoted

Zach Britton of the Orioles had one of the best starts of his young career on Thursday against the White Sox. In eight innings, Britton allowed one run on seven hits, and struck out ten batters without walking one. For Britton, who has only made eight starts in the majors this season while battling injuries and ineffectiveness, the start was a step in the right direction. Of...

Showalter: Bundy likely won't reach majors this year

Prized prospect Dylan Bundy likely will not be recalled by the Baltimore Orioles when rosters expand Saturday. The 2011 first-round draft pick, a right-handed starting pitcher, breezed through Class A competition this spring and has fared well at Class AA Bowie this summer. On Wednesday, manager Buck Showalter essentially eliminated talk of the 19-year-old phenom making his debut...

White Sox-Tigers Preview

Though the Chicago White Sox have struggled on the road of late, and certainly at Comerica Park, they might be catching the Detroit Tigers at the right time. The AL Central-leading White Sox look to avoid a fifth straight loss to the second-place Tigers by handing them a fourth consecutive defeat Friday night. If Detroit (69-61) is to reduce or potentially erase Chicago's three...

Orioles Sign Randy Wolf

The Baltimore Orioles apparently have signed free-agent lefty and recent Brewer Randy Wolf.  It didn't take long for Wolf to find a new team.  Wolf will be pitching in the AL for the first time, although as of now it's unclear if he's joined Baltimore to fortify a young rotation or to help from the bullpen.  The Orioles were among the suspected suitors for Wolf in...

Orioles close to signing Randy Wolf

The Baltimore Orioles are close to signing free agent left-hander Randy Wolf, who was released by the Milwaukee Brewers last week. Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Wolf was expected to arrive in Baltimore on Wednesday and there's a chance he could be activated before Thursday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Wolf was cut loose by the Brewers after going 3-10 with...

Well folks, here is the biggest series of the season so far and amazingly it's against the Orioles.
