Chicago White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko has recently been telling reporters that he’s mulling retirement, as he’s not sure if he’s interested in returning to play another season. While Konerko’s status for the 2014 campaign is uncertain, there are now questions surrounding his availability for the remainder of this season after he exited last night’s game with a knee injury. Scott Merkin of MLB.com reported the early exit. Konerko fouled a pitch off the back of his knee, but he remained in the game. However, the foul ball did some sort of damage, as Konerko was lifted a bit later in the contest. To replace Konerko, the White Sox moved Conor Gillaspie over to first base and inserting Marcus Semien at the hot corner. Konerko fouls a ball off of his back knee but stays in the game. Gillaspie at first, Semien at third — Scott Merkin (@scottmerkin) September 25, 2013 It’s unclear how severe the injury is, but you would expect Konerko to return prior to the end of the regular season, especially if he’s seriously contemplating retirement. It’s been a long season for Konerko, as the veteran has faced struggles at the plate he hasn’t experienced since the 1990’s. Over 504 plate appearances, the 37-year-old has hit .248/.317/.356 with 16 doubles and 11 home runs.  Follow @mlbinjurynews Looking for fantasy baseball advice?

Paul Konerko: The End of an Era?

I remember it like it was yesterday: an offseason trade that came with little fanfare and even less expectations.  The White Sox had traded outfielder Mike Cameron after a disappointing sophomore season to the Reds in exchange for some guy named Paul Konerko. At the time, Konerko had played 81 career games in the big leagues between the Dodgers and Reds and was hitting .214...

Konerko homers, but White Sox fall to Royals 3-2

Paul Konerko hit his 427th home run as a member of the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night. Could it have been his last? Konerko smacked a solo shot off Kansas City starter Jeremy Guthrie deep into the seats in left field in his first at-bat of a 3-2 loss to the Royals. But the White Sox, who lost for the 97th time this season, have just three games left. Then Konerko, who has...

Jason Giambi is 42 years old, but on Tuesday night, he probably felt like a kid again. White Sox lose on Giambi's walk-off
