Ok, here is the game: based on what is already on the roster what three players would I sign to minor league deals with an invite to spring training. The player has to be realistically willing to accept a minor league deal with the Mets...My first pick would be Ross Ohlendorf the 29 y/o right hander had two solid years as a starter for the Pirates, prior to that he was used as a reliever for two seasons by the Yanks. He knows the pressure of playing in NY while his value is down after posting an 8.15 ERA in Pitt. last year while only making nine starts. The Mets wouldn't have much competition signing him and could tuck him away in Buffalo, then call him up as a starter or reliever.Number two would be Mark Teahen, the bench needs a left handed bat and Teahen can play everywhere except catcher, center and short. I know he only hit .200 last year but that's exactly why he could fall to the Mets on a minor league deal, beside Depo drafted him in 2002. In just 2009 he play...

2012 MLB Draft: Trey Williams, 3B, Valencia HS

With the hot stove season nearing its end, I’ll be chipping in a lot less on Mets news, and focus more on the upcoming First Year Player Draft in June, as I did last year. I’m currently working on my own “Top 15 Draft Prospects” list and a “Five Players To Watch” piece for the Mets top selections in 2012. Both will be ready in early February. I...

Kevin Goldstein of BP and ESPN.com, listed 22-year-old Mets pitching prospect Cory Mazzoni among his 10 breakout prospects for 2012. Goldstein writes: “Those numbers came in short stints after a heavy college workload, and he’ll return to starting in 2012, equipped with a fastball and slider that both rate as above average. His early success has some tempted to see if he could...

Odds to win the 2012 World Series, Mets among the bottom feeders in the league

Just when you thought the local papers and some bloggers were in agreement that the Mets will have a terrible season, Vegas has come up with the latest odds to win the 2012 World Series. The Mets are a 100/1 shot to win the whole thing along with the White Sox, Pirates, and Orioles.. The only teams to have worse odds are the Padres, A's, and Astros, who are 150/1. Now that...

Cody Ross would A Nice Addition

The Mets have been rumored to have interest in free agent outfielder Cody Ross. Cody would be a very nice addition to a weak hitting bench. He also has the ability to start if needed. The Mets bench currently consists of Mike Nickeas, Ronny Cedeno, Scott Hairston and Justin Turner. Ross would instantly become the top bat off the bench and provides insurance if any of the potential...

Redder Pastures

Further proof that the band will not be getting back together, Willie Harris has left Flushing for the allure of chili cheese coneys and bad pizza ... and a much more realistic shot at a division title in Cincinnati where Harris has signed with the Reds on a minor league contract. This could only mean that Harris, who was a defensive wizard everywhere else in his life except Flushing...

SCOTT HAIRSTON MUCH BETTER VALUE SIGNING OVER CODY ROSS

With the word that Cody Ross has signed with the Boston Red Sox with the Mets in contention for his services, the question of the day is whom would you rather  have as your 4th outfielder, Cody Ross or Scott Hairston? Ross put a .240/.325/.405/.730 line last season with the Giants in 461 plate appearances. Hairston, stepped into the batter’s box, a sporadic 145 times to fill a...

Mets Interested In Cody Ross

The Mets are "making a run at signing" free agent outfielder Cody Ross, reports ESPN's Jerry Crasnick (Twitter link).  Ross would give the Mets depth at all three outfield positions, join ex-Giants teammate Andres Torres in a center field platoon or join Scott Hairston as right-handed complements to the left-handed hitting Lucas Duda in right field. The Braves...
