It is like holding Thanksgiving dinner and not inviting your Mom and Dad.
That is what the Phillies must feel like with Chase Utley and Ryan Howard out until the All-Star break because of knee and Achilles injuries, respectively.
But this is baseball, besides not crying in baseball (thank Tom Hanks), and you must as a team dealing with injury.
And the Phillies are not, losing Thursday 8-3 to the Dodgers.
Five straight NL East titles isn’t so sure anymore.
But with two playoff spots available, a total of 18 teams were at least four game out.
That was the other day and included the Phillies.
After losing six straight game and going 3-7 in their last 10 games, the Phillies are six games behind the Washington Nationals with a record of 28-31 in last place.
Besides a bad Chad Qualls, just take a look at the Phillies’ lineup recently.
Hector Luna batting cleanup?
A Phillies lineup might looks like this:
Jimmy Rollins, Juan Pierre, Hunter Pence, Carlos Ruiz, Shane Victorino, Ty Wiggington,...

Roy Halladay and Phillies athletic trainer Scott Sheridan spoke to the media Wednesday afternoon to update Halladay’s condition.Halladay, on the shelf since May 29 with a lat strain, had a second opinion on his shoulder that showed minimal changes to his rotator cuff since 2009.So nothing changes. Halladay will be given three weeks off from throwing and then will be reevaluated...
Joe Blanton made it work with a little help from his friends. The Phillies have finally snapped their losing streak. After losing six in a row, the Phillies pulled out a win against the Baltimore Orioles 9-6. Joe Blanton started for the Phils and muscled his way into the seventh inning after the offense gave him a 7-0 lead after the second inning.Bailing out Blanton – The offense...
Hunter Pence and the Phillies seem to have run into a wall during their current five-game losing streak. PHOTO: APThe misery of Phillies fans everywhere continued tonight as the Dodgers managed to win another close game against the Phillies by a score of 6-5. The loss would be the Phillies fifth in a row, dropping them two games below .500. Coupled with a Nationals win, the loss...
While the Phillies continue to pile up heartbreaking losses, the news on the injury front is getting better on the big three injured superstars.
Roy Halladay finally received his second opinion yesterday from Mets doctor Steve Alchek. After much delay (almost a week) Dr. Michael Ciccotti’s original diagnosis of grade 1 strain of the latissimus dorsi muscle was confirmed. Even better...
If April showers bring May flowers, then what does June bring? The only thing I know for sure is that for Cliff Lee, June has not yet brought him a win. That is 9 starts, a 2.92 ERA and a 0-3 record. Yikes.
And it is not that Lee has not deserved a win; the Phillies offense has simply not scored for him. In Lee’s 9 starts, the Phillies have scored a total of 16 runs while he was...
Jim Thome spent seven weeks in spring training attempting to get his 41-year-old body in shape to play in the field for the first time in seven seasons. After chronic back pain crept up in the first month of the season, Thome was placed on the disabled list, the team shelved its plan to play him at first base and he went back to Clearwater, Fla. But when Thome returned to the Phillies...
Today Roy Halladay met with the media for the first time since being put on the DL. Halladay and Phillies Head Athletic Trainer Scott Sheridan held a press conference around 4 o'clock on Wednesday. Roy was set to see a second doctor to get a second opinion, hoping for better news. Halladay did get a second opinion, but it was to no avail.
Roy will remain on the disabled...
In 2008, the Philadelphia Phillies won the World Championship of baseball.
In 2009, the Phillies went to the World Series and lost in six games to the New York Yankees.
Since then, the Phillies have gone World Champions (08), National League champions (09), National League Division champions (10-11) and National League East champions (12).
During that time, since 2008, the Phillies...
