Aside from Ike Davis, Bobby Livingston was the biggest surprise of the first spring training game. Livingston relieved an injured Elmer Dessens who was struggling at the time of his injury and left his replacement in a tight situation. After pitching 2 2/3 scoreless innings of ball, as a left hander there are many of us going who is this Livingston guy and do we need Beimel or Mahay.Livingston is a 27 y/o left handed pitcher who was drafted by the Mariners in 2001. He came up through the Seattle organization until 2006 when he made his major league debut, despite being used exclusively as a starter his entire minor league career the Mariners used him as a reliever. In three games ( 5 innings) he pitched to a 15 ERA and after the season was placed on waivers.The Rays claimed him and immediately traded him to the Phillies, in which the league intervened and revoked the claim/trade.
