Kris Medlen can anchor your pitching staff, but is Chris Sale a better option?
Who’d you rather target for your pitching staff, Chris Sale or Kris Medlen? We’ll profile both players, comparing and contrasting, then determine which is the better bet for your fantasy baseball pitching staff.
Kris Medlen
First, let’s get to know him. He’s a barely 5’10″ righty who played shortstop in college and was drafted as a reliever in 2006′s 10th round. His wife’s name is Nicole and his drink of choice is Coors Light.
Returning from TJ surgery the Atlanta Braves started him in the bullpen in order to ease him into action. He got his first start on July 31 and ended that second half with a 0.94 ERA, 0.82 Whip, 9 Wins, and 95 Ks to only 14 walks. That half of pitching has been matched only by the likes of Pedro Martinez, Greg Maddux, and Bob Gibson. Had that been stretched over a full season, they would have been forced to rename the Cy Young award after him. It can not be overstated how unhittable...

McCann's stay in Atlanta almost done?
It's a business; a hard, unforgiving business.
It was a business last season, when Braves catcher Brian McCann played hurt and, according to several former teammates, grew frustrated when management did not sufficiently acknowledge his condition or sacrifice.
And it will be a business this offseason, when McCann becomes a free agent and, if healthy, likely draws interest from...
Braves' Terdoslavich back on right track
A few days and a couple spring training games back, lodged in a hallway between George M. Steinbrenner Field's visitor's dugout and its accompanying clubhouse, Fredi Gonzalez voiced his displeasure with Joey Terdoslavich.
"We happen to have a day off tomorrow," Gonzalez said, straight-faced, "and we're gonna sit him down."
Terdoslavich had just completed...
Tim Hudson continues spring troubles

Spring has not gone as Tim Hudson had hoped. The veteran pitcher had another rough outing on Sunday allowing six runs in five innings to the Marlins.
There is still time for a turn around as Hudson has three starts left this spring. The 37-year-old has allowed 10 runs in 14 innings thus far.
Hudson told David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution that he feels...

Yankees to pursue Chipper Jones?
The Yankees reportedly intend to gauge the interest of recently retired Braves star Chipper Jones, among others, in possibly filling in for the injured Mark Teixeira.
Will strikeouts sink the Braves?
As you may have heard by now, the Atlanta Braves made a few changes over the winter. With the new additions, the Braves lineup figures to be among the most powerful in baseball. But along with all that thunder, there will also be plenty of whiffs. In fact the Braves strikeout tally could be among the highest in the game. Here’s the key question, though…
Does it matter?

WHITE SOX 3, ROCKIES 1
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Paul Konerko hit his fifth home run of spring training and Chris Sale pitched into the sixth inning in his first start since signing a big contract, leading the Chicago White Sox over the Colorado Rockies 3-1 Monday.

30-1 MLB countdown previews: #21 White Sox
The Chicago White Sox were the best story last season that got no attention. The Nationals, Orioles and Athletics got all the press, and rightly so as all three teams made the postseason in 2012. The White Sox did not, but gave the eventual AL Pennant winning Tigers a run for their money before falling short. The White Sox finished the season 85-77 under new manager Robin Ventura...
Sleeper Scout: Mike Minor and Hisashi Iwakuma

After being selected seventh overall in the 2009 Amateur Draft, Mike Minor has seen more bad days than good ones in Atlanta. Even though his strikeout numbers have been more than respectable, his career 4.37 ERA and 1.30 WHIP leave much to be desired. Minor started 30 games for the Braves last year, his first full season in the majors, and posted career-bests...

We've spent a lot of time lately, as we do every spring, getting to know the youngsters in the White Sox organization.
