Found October 01, 2013 on World Series Dreaming:
PLAYERS: Theo Epstein
TEAMS: Chicago Cubs
In the beginning of the 2013 Cubs season it seemed like Dale Sveum lacked the fire and ispirational style a manager that would benefit young athletes. At times I thought he would stick with starters too long, before going to the bullpen. Although, April was so difficult with our bullpen not having success in the closer role with Carlos Marmol. Eventually Marmol was demoted from the closing role and Kevin Gregg became the closer and he had great success. Marmol and others were traded for youth to acquire minor league stars to help in the years ahead. Once again it was a strange year where half way in the season it seemed like the team was starting to perform better, but because they were still under .500, the Theo plan mandated that they would trade veteran players like Alfonso Soriano and Matt Garza and others to get young talented minor leaguers who might help us a few years in the future. As a fan who just wants to contend every year and make it to the post season it is time ...

2013 Cubs Prospects In Review: Jorge Soler

Jorge Soler is a 21 year-old right-handed outfielder standing 6'3-225. Born in Cuba, Soler defected in 2011, establishing residency in Haiti. On June 2, 2012, Soler was cleared by OFAC to become a free agent, and began negotiations with clubs to sign a contract. Soler was notable in that he was the last major international prospect to become available before restrictions on IFA...

Chicago Cubs weekly round-up: 2013 in the books

The misery of the 2013 season is finally over. The Cubs now look to 2014 to improve.  (Photo Credit: Lenny Ignelzi) The Chicago Cubs finished a lackluster 2013 season with a 4-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.  Sunday’s loss capped off a sweep for the Cardinals, a series in which they clinched the National League Central crown and captured the best overall record...

Cubs fire manager Dale Sveum after only two seasons

The Chicago Cubs are once again in the market for a new manager. The club announced Monday that it had fired manager Dale Sveum after two years at the helm. The Cubs, fielding a team largely composed of big leaguers who shouldn’t have been in the big leagues, went 127-197 under Sveum’s watch. That comes out to just a .392 winning percentage. The Chicago job was Sveum’s first...

Joe Girardi leading Cubs Manager candidate as Sveum axed

It’s rather likely right now that Joe Girardi will leave the New York Yankees in order to manage the Chicago Cubs? It was reported last Friday that if the Cubs were interested in talking to Joe Girardi, he certainly would listen. Also, the consensus surrounding the Cubs was that they would not fire Dale Sveum until/if they knew Girardi was ready to come to Chicago. They just fired...

CHICAGO (AP) -- The Chicago Cubs have fired manager Dale Sveum after finishing last in the NL Central for the first time in seven years. The Cubs closed the campaign dropping 41 of their final 59 games, including six of their final seven. They finished 66-96 this season and Sveum went 127-197 in his two seasons at the helm. He has one year left on a three-year deal signed before...

Chicago Cubs fire manager Dale Sveum after two seasons

The Chicago Cubs and GM Theo Epstein have unceremoniously fired manager Dale Sveum after just two seasons at the helm.

Dale Sveum out as Cubs manager

The rebuilding efforts of the Chicago Cubs are going in a different direction, as manager Dale Sveum has been let go by the organization. Sveum signed a three-year contract with the club prior to the 2012 season, but despite a five game improvement in their win/loss record from 2012 to 2013, the decline of players like Starlin Castro and Anthony Rizzo under Sveum's watch was...

Theo Epstein Lowers The Boom On Dale Sveum

(AP Photo)Former Red Sox GM Theo Epstein today fired former Red Sox coach Dale Sveum from his position as manager of the Chicago Cubs. Apparently, the Cubs want a clean managerial slate to help celebrate next year's 100th Anniversary of Wrigley Field (we know how impactful those celebrations are on team performance, don't we?). Sveum was really in a no-win position—skippering...

Cubs have serious interest in Joe Girardi

Brian Cashman's meeting with Joe Girardi's agent Wednesday comes at a time when the Chicago Cubs have serious interest in hiring the New York Yankees manager sources told ESPN. Chicago fired Dale Sveum on Monday and sources say that Cubs ownership views Girardi as someone who can help put a jolt into fan interest in the team. The Cubs' attendance has declined in each...

With Dale Sveum fired, what do Epstein and Hoyer want in their next manager?

By now, the news has more than broken, but in case anyone has not yet heard, Chicago Cubs president Theo Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer have relieved manager Dale Sveum of his duties. In fact, those are almost the exact words of the Cubs' tweet from very early Monday afternoon. Just released: #Cubs have relieved Dale Sveum of his duties as manager. — Chicago Cubs...

Report: Cubs Ownership Plans to Offer Joe Girardi ‘Serious Contract Offer, If Given the Chance’

Joe Girardi may just become the hottest free agent on the market. While his contract with the Yankees is not set to expire until Oct. 31, the Bronx Bombers have made it clear they do not want their manager going anywhere, reportedly even offering Girardi a pay raise to extend his stay with the team. Girardi’s agent will meet with Brian Cashman on Wednesday to discuss a new deal...

Cubs interested in A.J. Hinch for manager opening

The Cubs are preparing to contact the Padres about front-office executive and ex-Diamondbacks manager A.J. Hinch regarding their managerial job. Hinch is among the names on the Cubs' list of potential candidates to replace Dale Sveum who was fired Monday after two years managing the Cubs. Hinch was first mentioned as one who'd interest the Cubs by Ken Rosenthal of Foxsports...

Assume the Position in Review: C

I thought it would be neat to review my critiques at each position that I made before the season. Let's see how wrong I was! MLB Beef Castle is the definite starter next year. He's projected by BJ to have a wOBA of .318. I like him a pretty good deal: his minor league numbers indicate that he is ascending, he improved over the course of the season, and his defensive game...
