After starting off their, season high ten roadtrip with an impressive 6-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, the Boston Red Sox faltered in the final two games of the series and ultimately lost two out of three to the Angels. The first game of series, was all about the solid performance of Felix Doubront, who pitched six and two-thirds allowing just two runs and striking out five. Mike Napoli and David Ortiz each homered for Boston and it was Napoli’s first long ball since the beginning of June. Saturday night saw one of the worst Red Sox performances of the season as they were up 7-3 in the top of the ninth inning. Manager John Farrell brought in Alex Wilson, who has been dependable all season long as a rookie out the Red Sox bullpen but quickly loaded the bases and then the Boston bullpen allowed four runs in the ninth inning to make it a 7-7 game. Then in the 11 inning, Josh Hamilton hit a two-run walk-off home run for the Angels off Craig Breslow. It was biggest comebac...
BEST OF MAXIM
Well this isn’t good.
During Saturday’s game against the Angels, Red Sox left-handed reliever Andrew Miller was pulled with an injured left foot, unable to walk off without assistance. Today, news has come down that Miller had sustained significant damage to the ligament in his foot, and would have season-ending surgery.
Make no mistake; while Miller may not be a big-name star...
(Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)Everyone will focus on the bullpen meltdown in analyzing Boston's most devastating loss of the season, 9-7 in 11 innings last night. With two outs in the ninth, Alex Wilson and Koji Uehara could not protect a four-run lead. That said, it was the countless missed scoring opportunities early in the game that should have turned this into a laugher for...
I can admit it: I was wrong about Jonny Gomes.
After being critical of the Red Sox signing the outfielder in the offseason, he has proven me wrong by playing a big role for the first place team. Last week he hit his second walk off home run, and his third walk off hit of the season.
I did say he was just a reliable body the Sox signed, but he has played in 63 games and has delivered...
Just when it seemed like the Red Sox were finally out of the woods when it came to reliever questions, a dark cloud settled back over the bullpen.
Reliever Andrew Miller will undergo a season-ending foot surgery to repair ligament damage in his left foot, leaving Boston with Craig Breslow as the only left-handed reliever on the roster. Sox general manager Ben Cherington talked with...
Jarrod Saltalamacchia has come a long way behind the plate. “Salty” isn’t among the elite at his position, but he’s developed into a solid defensive catcher. He is certainly among the most cerebral. Once looked at as an offense-first backstop, he is playing a key role in the success of a Boston Red Sox pitching staff that is exceeding expectations.
Originally a first-round...

Game 91: Sox lose a laugher 11-4
Ugh. It's just not getting any better for Jon Lester in 2013. Lester went 5+ innings, giving up five runs on nine hits in the loss to the Seattle Mariners. His ERA stands at a bloated 4.60. While many of the Red Sox starters are getting better, the former ace is getting worse. Yes, he was squeezed a bit by...
So much for Seattle's Safeco Field being a "pitchers park". The Red Sox and Mariners combined for 28 hits, 19 runs and six home runs as the Red Sox pulled out the 11-8 win.
David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Mike Napoli, Shane Victorino and Jackie Bradley Jr all went deep for the Red Sox.
Check out JBJ's home run that proved to be...
There are inevitably going to be a lot of rumors leading up to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, and this one is rather vague. It’s still worth passing along, though, as it gives an indication of what the Red Sox might be looking for while trying to improve their roster.
According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Red Sox are open to “possible trade-market upgrades” in the...
The stage was set perfectly for the Red Sox to show America that they are indeed the best team in baseball, the Sunday Night game on ESPN. Its the game that everyone that is a baseball fan watches, and the Sox came out flat, getting only 5 hits in 9 innings, scoring 0 runs. Lackey pitched well, a good showing from him back in his old stomping grounds...
When the Red Sox traded away Manny Ramirez, they received Jason Bay.
Bay reported to Boston from the Pittsburgh Pirates immediately and was in the Sox lineup the next day. He had a remarkable first few games with the ball club and, though he was only with Boston for two seasons, Bay has fond memories with the team.
Bay talked about them with NESN’s Jamie Erdahl before the Sox matched...

I hate Red Sox West Coast road trips. Like, I really, seriously LOATHE West Coast road trips. I’m one of those people who’s really finicky about my sleep schedule, to the point that I’ll ditch my friends to go home and sleep. But as you all know by now, I’m also extremely serious about the Red Sox, and I’m willing to sacrifice a consistent sleep schedule for a few days...
