For nearly 24 hours between late Thursday night and Friday, the city of Boston and the surrounding community was riveted by the heated pursuit of two suspects in Monday’s Boston Marathon bombings.
That search finally came to fruition around 9 p.m. Friday night, when a combination of local, state and federal law enforcement officers apprehended the second suspect in Watertown, allowing Boston to breathe a collective sigh of relief.
The lockdown of the area resulted in the postponements of both the Bruins and Red Sox games originally scheduled for Friday night, and numerous athletes took to Twitter after the situation was resolved to express their appreciation to the police, fire and emergency personnel that worked around the clock to keep their community safe.
Check out a few of those tweets below.

The Sox just released their lineup for tonight's game against the Indians and there's one major omission: Will Middlebrooks. Will will be replaced by Pedro Ciriaco at the hot corner after going two for his last 30.
Aside from that Toronto game in which he hit three home runs a combined 6,000 feet, Middlebrooks has been atrocious this year. He got off on a bad foot by playing...
On Tuesday night, the Cleveland Indians hosted the Boston Red Sox in a game at Progressive Field to kick-off a three-game set. And while the Red Sox players, staff and coaches were there in body, it would not have been surprising to learn that their hearts and minds were somewhere else.
While a big-time Indians backer, one young fan, Dylan Fantone, arrived at Progressive Field with...
Monday's bombing at the Boston Marathon has weighed heavy on the minds and hearts of us all. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the majority of us are angry, sad and, perhaps, even concerned for our own safety.
Suffice it to say, members of the Boston Red Sox are no different.
So when news broke late Thursday night that one of the suspects was dead...
In this crazy day in Boston as part of this crazy, crazy week in the city we love dear, three things have mostly gotten the people who live in the city and the people who pray for their safety through this.
The fact that Boston’s finest police officers are trying to get the last guy. Mess with Boston, and they will shut the whole damn city down to look for you and make you pay...
Will Middlebrooks started off the season extremely hot, the peak of this coming in a 3 home run game against Toronto in the first week. Since then Middlebrooks has taken a complete 180 at the plate, going from one of the hottest hitters in baseball to one of the coldest. After the 3 home run game Middlebrooks was hitting .320 on the year, after last night he is hitting .182, .018...
Dustin Pedroia is used to holding court in front of the media before and after Red Sox games, but he’s not used to these types of questions.
Pedroia answered the tough questions that kids on Red Sox Small Talk threw at him including: Who’s the best singer on the Red Sox? Who’s the funniest player on the team? And do you like the snow?
Pedroia said that newcomer Jonny Gomes...
Will Middlebrooks has struggled to find his stroke of late, going just 2-for-30 at the plate since his monster, three-homer game in Toronto on April 7.
He’ll have a night off to collect himself, as Red Sox manager John Farrell has elected to give Pedro Ciriaco the start at third base for Thursday night’s series finale in Cleveland.
Ciriaco has gone 2-for-8 with a double and two...
A number of athletes have used their equipment to pay their respects to the victims of this past week’s tragic events. On Sunday, Jonny Gomes will use his bat to pay homage. Will Middlebrooks tweeted a photo prior to the first game of the Red Sox’ doubleheader against the Royals. It’s supposedly of the lumber that Gomes will use. The bat features the names of the four people...
Friday should be an emotional night at Fenway Park.
Friday’s contest against the Royals will be the Red Sox’ first home game since Monday’s Boston Marathon tragedy, which is still fresh in the minds of the players and of the rest of the Boston community.
The Red Sox have honored the victims and heroes of Monday’s events throughout their series in Cleveland. The team hung...
