No Big Papi? No problem.
Will Middlebrooks went 4-for-5 in Sunday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays with three home runs and a double. He became the youngest Red Sox player since Jim Rice in 1977 to hit three home runs in one game. He is also the first Red Sox hitter to park three since Dustin Pedroia did on June 24, 2010 in Colorado.
Middlebrooks showed his power to all fields; a two-run shot to right field in the first inning, a double down the left field line in the third, and a home run in the fifth and the seventh to left center field.
Middlebrooks now has four home runs on the 2013 campaign, which is tied for second in the American League with Baltimore’s Chris Davis and Cleveland’s Mark Reynolds. The trio only trail Michael Morse from the Seattle Mariners, who leads the league with five.
