Thoughts from Joe D. The Rockies remain strongly interested in the Mets’ Justin Turner, writes Troy Renck this morning in his column for the Denver Post. The Rockies could still move Eric Young Jr. because of a crowded outfield situation with as many as four players competing for reserve spots, including Charlie Blackmon, Eric Young Jr., Tyler Colvin and Jamie Hoffman. Young, 26, is a .246 hitter with 48 stolen bases over parts of three seasons with the Rockies. A switch hitter, Young has roughly split his time between the outfield and at second base, his natural position. The Mets could certainly use his speed off the bench and with Daniel Murphy expected to get the bulk of playing time at second base, Young would be an excellent defensive caddy for him while also providing backup at all three outfield positions. As much as I love Turner, a swap for young would make perfect sense for the Mets and give them plenty of versatility. Original Post 1/20 The Colorado Rockies are sti...

Should the Mets retire Hernandez’s No. 17?

In a post to Mets by the Numbers, Jon Springer writes: “Perhaps giving into fan indignation and recognizing Keith Hernandez’s growing legend for his post-career contributions to the cause of Met-ness, No. 17 was unissued in 2011. It was the first time in 21 years no Met had worn 17. … Is it permanent? Or just taking a well-deserved break?” The last player...
