Mets Merized Online:
The Mets announced they have assigned infield prospects Wilmer Flores and Josh Satin, and right-handed reliever Carlos Torres to minor league camp. That leaves 42 players remaining in major league camp.
Catcher Travis d’Arnaud, who was expected to be among today’s cuts, survives to play another day and remains in major league camp. However, he is still expected to start the season at Triple-A Las Vegas.
According to the new CBA rules, any prospect on the 40-man roster who becomes injured in camp after this date would get major league service time and pay if the issue lingered into the season even if he were to start the season on the disabled list. It makes the TDA decision all the more curious.
The Mets now have 42 players remaining in big league camp.

Just in case there’s any confusion if Johan Santana was upset with the New York Mets, one team official told the Daily News “This wouldn’t be the time to approach him about helping with any team functions” on March 12.
Supposedly, the star and General Manager Sandy Alderson spoke the following day and neither holds ill-will against the other. But if that communication did...
David Wright was scratched from tonight's World Baseball Classic game against
the Dominican Republic with sore ribs.
Wright said he began feeling discomfort in his left ribs about a week
ago when Team USA began preparing for the WBC with workouts in Arizona.
He said the Team USA injury reports sent up "red flags'' to the Mets
when they saw them in Port St....
In three professional seasons, Andrew Wells has played for six professional Independent teams in four different leagues; Evansville Otters, NYSL Federals, Roswell Invaders, Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, San Angelo Colts, York Revolution. In those three professional seasons Wells sits with a 2-5 record and a career ERA of 8.17. This definitely would not suggest a minor league...
The news is not good for David Wright, whose rib injury could force him to start the season on the disabled list and be out for up to a month.
WRIGHT: Could go on DL.
Wright, who was scratched from last night’s World Baseball Classic game against the Dominican Republic, was examined today in New York and diagnosed with a strain of his left intercostal muscle.
Obviously out of the...
If there was any doubt of Justin Turner making the Opening Day roster, that’s gone.
Because Turner has a greater upside offensively, he’s David Wright’s replacement at third base and will get more reps than Zach Lutz, Brandon Hicks and Brian Bixler.
He is starting and hitting second in today’s game against Miami in Port St. Lucie.
Wright was examined yesterday in New York...
The hits just keep on coming for the New York Mets. It remains to be seen when they’ll resume for their All-Star third baseman, David Wright, who was a leading MVP candidate for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.
Wright was scratched from Thursday night’s game against the Dominican Republic with rib soreness in his lower back left side. He was to be examined this morning...
Mets News and Notes:
Perhaps it was stating the obvious, but Terry Collins acknowledged Wednesday that Johan Santana is “not too close” to returning to a mound.
“Each and every day we’ll see how he feels,” Collins said. “When he thinks his arm -- the strength -- is there to get on the mound and throw a bullpen, he’ll do it. But he’s the only source we have as...
Here are some reactions from beat writers, journalists, Terry Collins and GM Sandy Alderson regarding the latest news on David Wright who was diagnosed by team doctors with a moderate intercostal strain.
Wright started experiencing discomfort near his rib cage about a week ago. He played in the WBC anyway, putting up huge numbers and earning the nickname “Captain America” for...
Yesterday, I pretty much concluded, in a post you can read below, that reliever Greg Burke has just about locked up one of the final spots in the Mets bullpen.
In the 9-1 loss to the Tigers on Thursday, Burke was brought in to get a critical out against one of the best hitters in the game, Miguel Cabrera. The side-winder induced Cabrera to pop up to end the fifth inning. Mission...
The Detroit Tigers defeated the New York Mets this afternoon by the score of 9-1 at Tradition Field. Most of the damage came against starting pitcher Dillon Gee who was absolutely awful and completely out of sync.
Gee had no control as evidenced by his four walks, two hit batters and three wild pitches in just two innings of work. The right-hander will need to get things sorted out...

First off, I hope that Johan Santana had a very happy 34th birthday yesterday. To have been with the Mets for five years and not have had years taken off his life is a tremendous accomplishment. So congratulations.
Johan spent his 34th birthday telling everyone that things are all right between him and the Mets regarding the pitching shape he's in. Wonderful. But of course...
Key offseason additions: Travis d’Arnaud, Noah Syndergaard, Shaun Marcum Key offseason departures: R.A. Dickey, Jason Bay, Scott Hairston The Mets made some great moves this offseason locking up their superstar player, David Wright, and acquiring catcher of the future Travis d’Arnaud. These are franchise changing moves and for once they were the right … Continue reading »
Looking at the Mets during Spring Training, the team clearly don’t have a facial hair ban. Justin Turner and Bobby Parnell are among players with big-time beards. Turner’s beard reminded me of Allen from The Hangover (played by Zach Galifianakis), so I decided to put him into the movie’s banner, next to Allen.
It works, right?
