The No. 21 overall prospect in baseball headed into the year, the Morristown, N.J., native wasn't expected to make a big league splash in 2009. After all, he didn't even have any experience above High Single A. Porcello's path to major league baseball has been a very odd one. In high school, at Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, NJ, he was rather impressive. As a senior, he was 10-0, had a 1.18 ERA, 112 strikeouts in 71 innings, and even pitched a no hitter against Newark Academy on May 12, 2007. He committed to the University of North Carolina, a very prestigious baseball academy.
