Fox Sports Houston:
Someone asked me last week, before the Astros lost four straight games to the Dodgers and Rockies, what would happen if this club ends up three or four games out of first place by the All-Star break in terms of potential trades of veterans. After all, the pitching has been terrific, the Astros have been competitive and the National League Central is not the best division in baseball.
So what would happen if the Astros were actually within a stone's throw from the division lead or one of the wild card spots? Would they still trade Wandy Rodriguez or Brett Myers? (We are going with the premise that the Astros will be looking to move veterans enjoying a good season such as Rodriguez and Myers in exchange for young players).
The weekend taught us that management is very, very unlikely to face that scenario at the mid-point of the season. The Astros have been competitive and have outperformed prognostications to this point. But it's still early and they are not a team ready to...

DENVER (AP) -- The Houston Astros have recalled right-handed pitchers Jordan Lyles and David Henderson from Triple-A Oklahoma City for Monday's doubleheader against the Colorado Rockies.
Lyles will start the second game of the doubleheader. Under the rules for the new collective bargaining agreement, a team is allowed to add a 26th player for a doubleheader.
Lyles is 0-1 with...
Right-handed pitcher Lucas Harrell, in his start for Houston at Los Angeles on Friday, allowed one run in 7 1/3 innings.
What caught the attention of the stats folks is that he threw 94 pitches, and did not have a single pitch on which a hitter swung and missed.
It was the seventh time since 2000 that a pitcher worked at least seven innings and did not have a swing and miss. It marked...
Houston manager Brad Mills rejected "sloppy" as the correct way to describe the Astros' 9-7 defeat against the Colorado Rockies in the front end of a Memorial Day doubleheader. Then again, Mills wasn't using the use of "tidy," either, after the Astros had committed three errors that led to four unearned runs. The Astros allowed two more unearned runs...
DENVER (AP) -- Dexter Fowler capped a big day at the plate with a game-ending triple off Brett Myers with one out in the 10th inning Monday night, giving the Colorado Rockies a 7-6 win and a sweep of their doubleheader with the Houston Astros.
The Rockies won the opener 9-7.
Fowler lined a pitch past a diving first baseman Carlos Lee and the ball ended up in the right field corner...
DENVER (AP) -- Carlos Gonzalez hit three home runs in his last three at-bats, Michael Cuddyer belted a grand slam and Dexter Fowler also homered, leading the Colorado Rockies past the Houston Astros 13-5 on Wednesday night for their third win in a row.
Gonzalez broke a 5-5 tie with a solo shot leading off the fifth off Lucas Harrell (4-4). He added a two-run drive as part of a six...
The 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft will commence next Monday, June 4, and conclude two-days later on June 6. Because the Houston Astros hobbled to the worst record in 2011, they sit atop the draft order. Below are … Continue reading →
