Time for your weekly trade rumor. John McGrath of the News Tribune in Tacoma, Wash., throws the Phillies out there as a potential suitor for Erik Bedard. Supposedly since the Mariners are already out of the playoff race, he says it could be wise to give up on their 29-year-old lefty starter. He is 4-4 with a 4.26 ERA in 61.1 innings. Bedard was traded by the Orioles to the Mariners in the offseason. The Orioles collected a bounty that included outfielder Adam Jones and pitcher George Sherrill. MLB Trade Rumors touched on the rumor and mentioned the Phillies could trade Carlos Carrasco or Adrian Cardenas. McGrath went deeper into the farm system: "A package for Bedard could include Adrian Cardenas, 20, a left-handed-hitting infielder regarded as the Phillies' top prospect. And Brad Harman, 22, called up to Philadelphia from Double-A this spring as a replacement for the injured Rollins. And Jason Donald, a former University of Arizona standout. "No...

  • there is no way the phils are trading carlos carrasco. he is out #1 pitching prospect. the phillies value their young hurlers. also, i can't see seattle trading bedard after sending a king's ransom to baltimore in order to get him.

don't get me wrong, i would LOVE to see the phils pick up bedard. but not only would that mean geting rid of valuable talent, but it would mean assuming his contract. which would make it impossible to lock up players like pat burrell, jason werth, brad lidge, etc.
  • At this point Myers and Gordon ought to be offered. I would like to keep our young guys.
  • Carrasco is good, but he's starting to seem like more hype than actual quality, but I'd be hesitant to trade him.

Taylor is ripping up Single A right now with power, average, and speed...I'm looking forward to watching him progress and hopefully become a part of the Phils outfield within the next 3 seasons.

Bedard is a good pitcher, but not a great pitcher. SafeCo is a whole lot friendlier than the Brick Cit House in Philly...I wouldn't mortage the future for 1.5 seasons of him.
  • Staying with the single A theme, Naylor for Lakewood looked phenomenal when I got to see him last week. He has some nasty nasty stuff and should make quite a push through our farm system and be in our rotation in a couple years...that is if we dont trade him
  • Savery, Carrasco, Cardenas, and Outman should ALL be untouchable. Our farm isnt too well stocked with young arms. Why would we want another Lefty anyways? This guy is nothing special..a #3 starter at best. I love how you think we need a "missing piece," when we're one of the best teams in the league with what we've got right now. Lets not turn into the Yankees here...you've seen how well going out and buying everybody thats available worked for them.
  • i saw a piece on carrasco on comcast a week or so ago that seemed to show that he was starting to turn a corner? agreed DTRIK, ESPN has the phils at #2 right now behind the cubbies, who we took the series from at home (all be it in april). i think if the phils can pick up a middle of the rotation starter for one of our outfielders and someone like carlos ruiz i'm all for it
  • Bedard isn't going anywhere unless a serious amount of quality prospects are sent up to the Emerald City.

The Phils have a better shot at going to Oakland and seeing what they want for Blanton. While it is true the the early part of the season has been rough on him, he is prime for a great second half.
  • Bedard wouldn't be a good fit for Citizens Bank. his problem is the long ball he's given up 8 in 11 starts. not terrible, till u look at the splits. 5 in his 5 starts away from Safeco field. And we all know how the ball flys out of the bank in the summer time.
  • He would be a good pickup, immediately our #2 starter, but I cannot see giving up a big combination of peices. Ex. Ruiz, Werth or Jenkins. I think we should wait as long as possible and hope that Eaton and Kendrick can keep there heads above water, before decimating our lineup.
  • well considering Myers is technically our #1, Hamels is the #2...neither of those guys are going anywhere so that would put Bedard at #3 at best...and the way Jamies pitching, he wont be a #3. He would take Eatons spot to break up the lefties.
  • im still thinking if myers doesnt maintain the performance that he has the last 3 games, charlie will move him down in the rotation and put hamels at #1 where he belongs, after the all star break. this trade aint happenening, but if it did id like to see our rotation be : hamels, Myers, Bedard, Moyer, Kendrick
  • You can't really move a guy down in the rotation during the season. After the all star break is the only time you can even attempt it since everybody gets a week rest. If Cole makes the All Star game he WILL NOT be the starter for the 1st game following the break. Either way...Bedard has NO chance of being a Phil...hes worthless and we don't need him.
  • GO FOR IT!

atleast we dont have to give up jimmy rollins :-P
  • I would,if you want a world series ring---brett myers control problems and adam eaton, the best pitcher,is 45 year old jamie moyer--he knows how to pitch--this guy should be coach---the way he is teaching kendrick and the other young phillies pitchers---I would pull, the trigger, pat gillick is a gunslinger,i like the way he put together teams.
  • Bedard has a horrible reputation around the league for his lousy attitude. I wouldn't want to add a bad seed like him to a happy clubhouse like Philadelphia. Bedard's teammates in Seattle already can't stand him and it's only been 3 and a half months since he arrived there.
  • Maybe we should be looking at trading Myers as a closer somewhere for a real #2 starter?
  • But he just bought a house in Glen Mills...I don't know if his wife could live without their bidet.
