Sporting News staff reports Eliminated from postseason contention long ago, the New York Mets already are thinking ahead to the 2010 season. And the New York Daily News speculates Angels right-hander John Lackey will be on their radar. Lackey, who tossed 7 1/3 scoreless innings in Los Angeles' ALDS Game 1 win over Boston, will be a free agent after the season. And he is widely regarded as the best starting pitcher in the free-agent class. Earlier this week, Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon expressed a willingness to do whatever it takes to build "a championship-caliber" team.
