Starting Lineup Andres Torres – DH Mike Baxter – LF David Wright – 3B Lucas Duda – RF Daniel Murphy – 2B Kirk Nieuwenhuis – CF Ike Davis – 1B Ronny Cedeno – SS Rob Johnson – C Game Preview The Mets look to avoid a sweep and three losses in a row as they take on the Blue Jays this afternoon. Yesterday the Mets received good pitching as after Batista left with an injury, Hefner turned in a great performance and the bullpen kept the Mets in the entire game. The lineup however, with some “help” from the umpires, never got it going and the Mets fell 2-0. Dillon Gee will help the Mets move beyond that today as he takes on Henderson Alvarez. Dillon Gee is 2-3 on the season with a 5.63 ERA over 43.0 innings of work. He is coming off two bad starts in a row where he has pitched a combined 11.o innings and allowed 11 ER (still striking out 8 though). In his young career, he has never faced the Blue Jays however he has faced two players in the Jays lineup. Kelly Johnson, the former Brave, i...

There are hot streaks, then there’s what David Wright is doing

New York Mets third basemen David Wright is the talk of the MLB town right now and for good reason, he’s flat out raking.  The 29-year-old is leading the majors with a .411 average and is batting an unworldly .442 in the month of May. To be honest Wright’s as locked in as anyone I have seen in quite some time, I mean there are hot streaks then there’s what he and Josh Hamilton...

David Wright Talks About His Future And Legacy With Mets

David Wright was a guest today on MLB Network’s “The Rundown”. Here is what he had to say on a variety of topics: His future with the Mets: “That’s a great question. I hope…I’d love to get this thing turned around and headed in the right direction and I think we’ve done that, taking that first step. Hopefully, I’m a big part of that.” Playing in New York: ...

Wright out of Mets lineup with illness

New York Mets third baseman David Wright was out of the lineup Saturday with an illness and could miss Sunday as well, according to ESPN New York. The Mets were planning to rest Wright on Saturday anyway, but he reportedly became more under the weather on Saturday morning. Wright went 1-for-3 on Friday in the Mets 14-5 loss to the Blue Jays in Toronto. He was taken out of the...

Mets-Pirates Preview

David Wright didn't play in any of the New York Mets' eight games against Pittsburgh last season. The Pirates probably aren't looking forward to renewing acquaintances this week. Wright will try to help the Mets win consecutive games for the first time in nearly two weeks when they open a three-game series against the Pirates on Monday night. Even an illness barely...

At Least David Wright Is Hitting .415

Ron Darling should know better. When he led off the broadcast by saying "oh well with the Pirates and Padres coming up on the schedule, you might think 'hey the Mets could go 5-2'", he started to sound too much like my late night conversations trying to be presumptuous about what's an "easy win" and what's not. I know Darling finished that thought...

Mets Struggle in Pittsburgh Since 2004

For some reason the Mets do not play well in Pittsburgh. Below I pulled out the Mets numbers when the play Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh all the way back to 2004, when David Wright joined the team. Over that time, the Mets went from horrible, to awesome, to horrible. The Pirates over that time have just been horrible. 2012: 0-1 @ Pitsburgh 2011: 2-2 @ Pittsburgh 2010: 2-1 @ Pittsburgh...

Mets Avoid Sweep In Edge Of Your Seat 6-5 Win Over Jays

The Mets have had terrible luck in the White North of Canada against the Blue Jays. Luckily with David Wright back, they were able to put some runs on the board. After two short starts from Jon Niese and Miguel Batista, we were able to find a starter that could at least reach the seventh inning. Dillon Gee had a nice start that was exactly what the Mets needed. Allowing three runs...

The game can be seen on SNY and heard on WFAN660AM.  Be sure to follow @MetsWFAN, @dailystache and @Meriwyn as well. That lineup…WOW. Starting pitchers Johan Santana and Erik Bedard have something in common.  Together, they are...

Errors Galore In Ugly 5-4 Mets Loss To Bucs

Yuck, this loss was U-G-L-Y! The Mets jumped to an early 4-0 lead with their ace Johan Santana on the mound and looking pretty good. It was supposed to be a recipe for success, but it ended up being a recipe for disaster instead. The Mets committed three errors in the game including two by David Wright, but it was the botched fly ball in the eighth inning that led to this latest...

Morning Grind: We Sure Could Use Someone Like Angel Pagan In Centerfield Right Now

Alright, I’ve gone too long without a good rant and after a loss like last night’s stinker against the Bucs, today’s as good a day as any. Let me begin with Andres Torres who has stunk up the joint considerably since his hot week after coming off of the disabled list. Torres is now batting .189 on the season and is 4-42 in his last 11 games started – all of them batting...

Mets 6, Blue Jays 5

TORONTO -- Right-hander Dillon Gee allowed five hits and three runs over 6 2/3 innings and David Wright drove in two runs with a first-inning double as the New York Mets held off the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 on Sunday. Mike Baxter was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle before an announced crowd of 41,867 at Rogers Centre as the Mets ended their two-gake losing skid and stopped...
