Mark it down. Anthony Reyes vs Justin Verlander. While Verlander had a Cy Young worthy season, Reyes isn't nearly as accomplished. If you listend to AJ Pierzynski on Fox before Reyes' NLCS start however, you heard the catcher say that he's not exactly the wildcard people think he is, having had success against the White Sox earlier in the year. Entering the season, Baseball America ranked him as the Cardinals top prospect. That being said, the odds aren't exactly with him. He'll take the mound on Saturday with "the distinction of having the fewest wins of any Game 1 starter in World Series history." His career record is 5-8. I have no idea what to expect in Game 1. Verlander has been tiring of late and I'm not sure Reyes is ready to walk into Detroit and shut down an American league lineup.
