The bad cloud hovering over the 2012 Yankees won’t blow away

Maybe it’s me. Maybe it’s just that loss to Toronto last night. For my money, it was the worst loss of the year. Worst loss since the 2011 playoffs. Worst loss I can remember. A crushing, brutal, unbelievably awful and sincerely smelly loss. A defeat. For nine innings, it was a sure win. Then, the worst loss since the Crusades. They say cowards die a thousand deaths. Well, then...

Astros' Fernando Abad, Jason Castro run into each other while fielding bunt (Video)

Houston Astros pitcher Fernando Abad and catcher Jason Castro ran into each other while fielding a bunt during Saturday's game at Citi Field against the New York Mets. The play that pretty much sums up how bad the Astros season has been. It happened in the bottom of the fourth inning with two outs and a Mets runner on third base. Abad and Castro were chasing down a bunt...

If Jeter batted third last night, we might have won; plus, Tex might not have gotten hurt

This just in from the alternative multiple Yankiverse continuum: If Jete batted third last night -- as this website has proven scientifically he should -- his 9th inning homerun would come with two outs, rather than leading off, a far more crippling and fatal psychological blow to Toronto - ensuring Yankee victory. Also, batting in front of Robbie, Jete might have been on...

Yankees Game 127: Granderson Gets His 200th

New York Yankees 4 — Cleveland Indians 2   Curtis Granderson hit his 200th career home run in today’s 4-2 win over the Cleveland Indians in the rubber game of the 3-game series.   Freddy Garcia started today’s game and was unable to finish the 5th inning despite giving up just 2 runs. Garcia would go 4.2 innings with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks on 90 pitches but Joe Girardi...

New York Yankees: 2009 vs. 2012

English: New York Yankees celebrate after their 7–3 win against the Philadelphia Phillies and win the franchise’s 27th World Series championship. (Photo credit: Wikipedia) After watching the New York Yankees, 11-inning loss to the Toronto Blue Jays last night without a doubt I was aggravated. So it I started thinking about the 2012 Yankees, and comparing them to the 2009 World...

Open Letter to Joe Girardi: It is time to put your best hitter - Derek Jeter - batting third

Dear Madam or Sir,It is said that next door neighbors cannot savor the Grand Canyon. Usher grew tired of Heidi Klum's face. By 60, Pete Townsend couldn't hear a note the Who was playing. One tragic flaw of humanity is our incredible ability to overlook the obvious. So let us now state the obvious:The heart of the Yankees should bat in the heart of their order.Bat...

Joe DiMaggio vs. Mickey Mantle

The New York Yankees may very well have the most storied history in professional sports. They have set the bar for greatness for sports as well, amassing an incredible 27 World Series Championships and 40 American League Pennants. Of course,a franchise can’t have such a rich history without legendary ballplayers, and the Yanks are unmatched in that department by a wide margin...

Soriano nails down save in win

When Mariano talks, Rafael Soriano listens. The career saves leader was watching when his fill-in gave up a three-run homer in the ninth inning of the Yankees' extra-inning loss Monday night and had some thoughts. So the injured star sought out Soriano when he visited the clubhouse Tuesday afternoon and gave him some advice. ''`Why you got to throw too many sliders...

Hey.Opposing Teams At Yankee Stadium: Shut The @#$% Up And Pitch!

Last night's Yankee loss to the Blue Jays left me angry and frustrated. Rafael Soriano picked the worst time to blow a save and Derek Lowe chose the wrong time to forget how to play defense. The team's lead in the AL East is back down to 3 and 1/2 games and it's hard not to worry about the remaining games in this stretch run of the season. But that's not what this...

The Eric Chavez Problem

It’s always good when the Yankees come to town for a weekend series.  The Indians get to sell some tickets and their fans get to see real, live baseballing players.  It’s a win-win, really. There was one of those baseballers from the Bronx who caught my eye this weekend in particular, and made me think some Tribe thoughts.  I think too often we look at the Bombers and see...

Yankees lose game, and lose Teixeira for one to two weeks

NEW YORK -- On a night full of home runs, an errant throw and a heads-up baserunning play gave the Toronto Blue Jays a surprising extra-inning win over the New York Yankees. More important for the Yankees, they lost first baseman Mark Teixeira for at least a week, he said after their 8-7 loss in 11 innings. Teixeira sustained a Grade 1 strain of his left calf, an MRI revealed...

Podcast Episode 20: Return To The Division

With the exception of two series against the Athletics and Twins, the Yankees' remaining games this season will be against teams in their own division. This episode of the podcast touches on that, as well as Derek Jeter, Nick Swisher, and the Red Sox-Dodgers trade. I close things out with the latest on the Uganda Little League. Leave your comments below or send me an email (ladybatting...
