Brian Cashman told Meredith Marakovits of YES that the plan is for left-handed starting pitcher Andy Pettitte to be activated from the disabled list to make his return sometime early next week during the team's series against the Cleveland Indians. Cashman told me the plan is to have Pettitte return during the CLE series (as long as there are no setbacks) #yankees — Meredith Marakovits (@M_Marakovits) May 29, 2013 Pettitte has been on the DL since the middle of the month due to a strained left trapezius muscle. Prior to hitting the shelf, the southpaw was scratched from his last scheduled start due to back spasms. His recovery has been going well thus far, and assuming there are no setbacks Cashman plans on activating him early next week against the Indians. The Yankees face the Tribe in a three-game set starting on Monday night. Prior to hitting the DL, Pettitte had maintained an ERA of 3.83 with a 1.297 WHIP over eight starts for the Yankees this season. Follow @mlbinjurynews Looking for fantasy baseball advice?

Kevin Youkilis and Mark Teixeira meet the media after their rehab game Wednesday (Photo Credit: Dan Pfeiffer/Examiner.com) When the season began in April, the Yankees’ main focus was to stay afloat until the stars came back. They’ve done more than just tread water. On May 29th, they stand one game out of first place behind the Boston Red Sox, with two sluggers on the verge of...

Curtis Granderson gives back to his alma mater, donates $5M for new stadium

Granderson is all smiles after his donationCredit: Roberta Dupuis-Devlin/UIC Photo As if Curtis Granderson needed anything more on his resume of being known as one of the “good guys” of baseball, he padded it anyway.  Probably doesn’t even care if he gets publicity.  The New York Yankees outfielder donated $5M to the University of Illinois – Chicago to upgrade their stadium...

Reeling New York Yankees to Face Significant Roster Decisions

New York Yankees starting corner infielders, Mark Teixeira and Kevin Youkilis are both due to come off the Disabled list on Friday for the series opener against the Red Sox.The timing is a best case scenario since both can bat right-handed and Boston will be throwing back-to-back lefties against New York Yankees suddenly anemic lineup. For New York, it will have to approach roster...

Yankees: Are you in a state of shock too?

What does it mean when you wear Yankee pinstripes, and can’t beat the Mets?  It spells t-r-o-u-b-l-e my friend, and that is exactly what this makeshift Yankees team is in. Yankees' Sabathia dominates Red Sox

CC Sabathia's fastball returned to the New York Yankees along with Mark Teixeira and Kevin Youkilis. Throwing at up to 94 mph after two months of decreased velocity, Sabathia matched his season high with 10 strikeouts while pitching into the eighth inning to lead New York over the Boston Red Sox 4-1 Friday night and stop the Yankees' season-high, five-game losing streak...

Mariano Rivera blows save without getting an out for first time in his career

Do you know how awesome Mariano Rivera is? He’s so great that one of his worst outings ever is an opportunity to praise him. On Tuesday night at Citi Field, Rivera blew a save without recording an out for the first time in his career. Rivera is 43 years old and has been pitching since [...]

Brett Gardner Robs Daniel Murphy of Extra-Base Hit for Second Night in Row With Catch at Wall (Video)

Daniel Murphy may have the best batting average on the New York Mets’ roster right now, but the Yankees have his kryptonite in their center field. New York’s Brett Gardner has put together two highlight-reel catches in his last two games. Both were against the Mets, both were in the sixth inning, and both robbed Murphy of hits that would have gone for extra bases. (Then again...

Five Days Later, The Batting Dead: Run, everybody, the Yankee Apocalypse has begun

You passed out in the wild party, after Overbay's HR beat Tampa. You wake up in an empty clubhouse, the lockers and showers horribly smeared with chalk and pine tar.  Outside, on the field, a roving horde of Yankees seems to be feeding on something. You climb the dugout steps for a better look. My God, it's the carcass of Joe Girardi! One of them sees you. It's Vernon...

Mariano Rivera Blows Save in Subway Series Match-up

In the final season of his storied career, New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera has pitched one of his best seasons to date. However, Tuesday night’s match-up against crosstown rival New York Mets would serve as the first major setback for the future hall of famer this season. With a 1-0 lead heading into the ninth inning, Rivera entered the game and surrendered a ground rule...

Watching the New York Mets Beat Mariano Rivera

I’m not a fan of the increased inter-league play happening throughout the 2013 season. However, I’ve always enjoyed watching the New York Mets and New York Yankees face each other in the Subway Series. This match-up is one I look for each year when the schedule is released. Despite the Mets owning an all-time record of 38-54 against the Bronx Bombers, it’s still exciting to...

Four Real? Red Sox vs Yankees 5-31-13

Pete Lepak RedSoxLife Staff Writer Game 56: Yankees take it, 4-1 Well, it wasn't a game of many highlights, but singles and walks gave the Yankees a 4-1 victory. In a rematch from Opening Day, C.C. Sabathia beat Jon Lester by simply pitching better, and it was simple; Lester missed his spots and C.C. didn't. Sabathia went over seven innings and struck out ten. Hopefully...

Injuries Taking Center Stage But Trending in Opposite Directions for Red Sox, Yankees (Video)

The Red Sox and Yankees are both dealing with injury-related storylines as they meet in the Bronx this weekend, but New York is probably a little more optimistic about its situation than Boston will be. With Jacoby Ellsbury scratched for the Sox on the same night that Kevin Youkilis and Mark Teixeira return for the Bronx Bombers, it’s hard not to think the Yankees might be better...

Red Sox vs. Yankees: Tale of the Tape

Subway Series Game 3: Mets rule the rails

The Mets clinched the 2013 Subway Series with a 9-4 thumping of the Yankees. Starter David Phelps only managed one more out than Mariano Rivera had in Tuesday night's loss. It was only the third time since May 3 the Mets had scored as many as five runs in a game. Jeremy Hefner was 0-5 going into the game, including two losses to the lowly Marlins. The Mets were 0-10 in games...
