Yankees’ Cashman talking to Zack Greinke’s agent

After getting traded from the Milwaukee Brewers to the Los Angeles Angels last season, Zack Greinke posted a 6-2 record with a 3.53 era.  Solid number for a backend rotation starter, however, he struggled at times with his command and had trouble keeping the ball low in the strike zone, which led him to give up 11 home runs in less than half a season. His performance left some questions surrounding his ability to perform in pressure situations, but overall, he did prove to be a solid Number 3 starter for the Angels last season. Despite some struggles, Greinke is considered one of the top free agent pitchers this offseason and will demand top dollar. Rumors have been circulating that Greinke is reportedly seeking a 6-year, $150 million contract or to be commanding no lower than a 5-year, 120 million dollar contract, there is hesitation mixed with guarded optimism that Brian Cashman may diligently attempt to place him in Yankees pinstripes. According to David Lennon of Newsday via Twitter, general manager Cashman met with Greinke's representatives. Greinke delivers a solid four-seam fastball that he mixes in beautifully with a curve and changeup  and when he keeps these specific pitches down in the zone -- he is often flat-out dominant. He might just be an ideal addition to a rotation that could use a quality Number 3 starter to make another championship run.  However, how would the pressure to perform in the toughest sports market in the MLB impact a pitcher who allegedly has had to deal with social anxiety issues at different points in his career? The Big Apple is certainly not for the faint of heart.  It should be noted, that he has worked past many of those issues, but is he worth the risk?  I think this is one-time Cashman is going to be extremely patient and see how the market plays out for Greinke, unless the pitcher surprises everyone and indicates from his own mouth that he welcomes the pressure and scrutiny sure to come his way, if he elects to put on Yankees uniform next season.
