The New York Yankees claimed outfielder Darnell McDonald off waivers from the Boston Red Sox according to Marc Carig of the Star-Ledger. The Red Sox designated McDonald for assignment last weekend.
McDonald was hitting .214/.309/.369 while smacking 2 homeruns and driving in 9 runs. His career year came in 2010 when he hit .270/.336/.429 in 319 at-bats.
In a related move, the Yankees designated Chris Schwinden for assigment Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports.
