The Yankees have claimed former Met, right handed reliever Ryota Igarashi, off waivers from the Blue Jays and will assign him to Triple-A, according to Dan Barisi of the Wall Street Journal. Igarashi, 33, has pitched in parts of three seasons with the Mets and Blue Jays. He was actually signed with the Pirates this offseason, but after he failed to make the opening day roster he was claimed by the Blue Jays. He only pitched in two games for Toronto before they designated him for assignment. In 81 games and 70 innings in his career, he has a 6.17 ERA, an 8.9 K/9, and a 6.2 BB/9. Igarashi primarily throws three pitches, a fastball, splitter, and a curve with his fastball averaging about 94 mph. Igarashi is just another arm that the Yankees can store away in the minors. If he pitches well and there is an opportunity then there may be an opportunity. Otherwise he’s just depth. Starting rotation will still prove to be a strength for the Yankees

Any other team would be in trouble right now. The Yankees had exactly one pitcher they could rely on the first month of the season, and even he started slow out of the gate. One pitcher suffered a torn labrum. Another, an aging veteran one year rental, couldn’t get an out. Another more expensive veteran wasn’t living up to his $11 million billing. The young starter who surpassed...

Hiroki Kuroda pitchF/X Diagnostic Check

You don’t need me to repeat it, but I will anyway: Hiroki Kuroda’s been an utter disappointment thus far, pitching at the replacement level, losing his control, and serving up long balls like it’s nobody’s business. And while eight innings of shutout ball against the Oakland Athletics last night may turn some heads, Kuroda’s still faces a problem where he hasn’t before...

Jeter passes George Brett on hit list

Yankees miss Gardner more than you think

If you asked Nolan Ryan – both as a pitcher and as president of the Rangers – he would most likely say it’s a BS-number to look at, but to just about everyone else around the game of baseball these days, pitch count has become something like the National debt. As Yankee fans we need look no further than the ever-present YES scoreboard box. This, in the minds of the television...

Yanks C Martin says he had unusual run-in with ump

Yankees catcher Russell Martin says home plate umpire Laz Diaz decided on an unusual way to punish him for arguing balls and strikes. Martin says Diaz wouldn't allow him to throw new baseballs back to his pitchers after fouls during New York's 6-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night. Martin and Diaz got into it early in the game, and Martin says Diaz '...

Caption: Derek Jeter as Colonel Kurtz in production of ‘Apocalypse Now’ (pic)

“I watched a snail crawl along the edge of a straight razor. That’s my dream; that’s my nightmare. Crawling, slithering, along the edge of a straight razor… and surviving.” Seriously, that pic looks like a still straight out of the final scenes in Apocalypse Now. Derek Jeter looks positively Brando-esque. Okay, okay, actual caption: Derek [...]

GIFcap: Andruw Jones Hit By Own Foul Ricochet, Makes Bat Boy Fear For His Life

Andruw Jones managed to get hit by his own foul ball yesterday in what can only be described as an odd play. Hell, the bat boy could tell you that. A mix between shock and fear on his face. Shock that the ball hit Andruw Jones and fear that Andruw Jones might eat him in

Yankees' Wade rebounds from Monday's loss by inducing key strikeout

Cory Wade's week started off on a sour note, as the New York Yankees reliver gave up Mark Trumbo's walk-off home run in Monday night's loss to the Los Angeles Angels. But Wade, who started his big-league career four years ago up the freeway with the Los Angeles Dodgers, got a chance to redeem himself before leaving Southern California. With the Yankees clinging to...

Morrow doesn't think bruised shin will cost him a start

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Brandon Morrow said he went into Wednesday's start against the Baltimore Orioles with a chip on his shoulder. He left with a bruise on his right shin after being hit by a comebacker, and he was thankful it wasn't worse. Morrow picked up the win as the Blue Jays completed a three-game sweep by defeating the Orioles 4-1 on four solo home runs...

Is Rodriguez Done As A Top 10 Third Basemen?

The fantasy baseball landscape at third base looks much different than it did at the end of last year. Only three players who ranked in the 2011 top 10 for third base according to ESPN’s Player Rater are currently in the top 10: Adrian Beltre (6), Jose Bautista (8) and Emilio Bonifacio (9).
