More good news on the injury front for the New York Yankees: Curtis Granderson is getting closer to coming off the disabled list.  Granderson, who fractured his forearm during spring training, is set to start a rehab assignment in the minors today.  Rehab assignments are generally the last hurdle a player has to clear before being added back to the active roster. Donnie Collins of the Scranton Times-Tribune says Granderson is expected to play three or four games with the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees - the New York Yankees' Triple-A affiliate - before being added back to New York's 25-man roster.  Granderson will simply need to avoid any setbacks this weekend, and he should be back playing with the Bombers by sometime next week. Granderson's injury was the first of what seemed to be a domino effect around the Yankees' roster.  He was hit by a pitch in his first spring game and suffered a fractured right forearm.  Next, players like Mark Teixeira, Alex Rodriguez, and Derek Jeter all received bad news about injuries - including Teixeira's trip to the DL. With Granderson back in the lineup, the Yankees will get some additional pop.  He is a 40+ home run threat every season.  New York, though, has not needed much help in the power department.  They are fifth in all of baseball with 41 home runs as a team.  That has helped lead the Yankees to a 19-13 record. Did Vernon Wells just have his Giambi grandslam moment as a Yankee?

The ancient storytellers say that on May 17, 2002, the tragic hero named Jason became a Yankee Argonaunt for eternity. It happened in the 14th inning of what appeared to be a soul-stealing defeat to the fearsome Twins. A pitcher called Sterling Hitchcock had surrendered three runs, and the Yankee ship was taking water.  Shane led off with a single. Alphonso hit a pop fly. Jeet singled...

Your browser does not support iframes.Thursday was a milestone day for Yankees second basemen Robinson Cano.Cano legged out an infield single in the third inning to record his 1,500th career hit. In customary fashion, the ball he hit to notch the milestone was removed from play and rolled into the Yankees dugout for a keepsake souvenir. Now, usually these balls are considered sacred...

There is do doubt that this 18-month-old who is referred to as ‘C.C’ knows more than I do about some of the Yankees’ greats. Yankees: Unfortunately we haven’t bought anything thus far

Have you heard this one? Yankees Green… A man and his wife are walking down a busy city street when they see a giant billboard that reads: 16 Billion and counting…. “National Deficit?” asks the wife. Her husband replied, “No dummy it is the New York Yankees payroll.” Ok maybe not that specific joke, but certainly its theme. My guess is you have heard something like it...

Home run breaks Pineda's car window

Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda was involved with an odd long ball. Pineda, who missed all of last season after right shoulder surgery, parked his SUV Wednesday in a grass parking lot behind the left-field fence at the Yankees' minor league complex. After working out, the right-hander got an unexpected surprise. A batting practice homer aided by the wind blowing out went through...

Robinson Cano gets 1,500th hit, Yankees bench give him impostor ball (Video)

Earlier today, New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano collected his 1,500th hit as a member of the organization in the third inning against the Colorado Rockies. After Cano collected the hit, the ball was sent to the Yankees bench where it was saved to be given to Robinson at a later date. Before Robinson got back to the Yankees dugout, a couple members of the coaching...

Yankees Game 32: Vernon Wells drives in two in win

Vernon Wells drove in two, scored twice, and played third base in the ninth inning tonight. New York Yankees 3 – Colorado Rockies 2   Vernon Wells came through in many ways in tonight’s 3-2 win over the Colorado Rockies. Wells done: Vernon is valuable

Photo Credit: yesnetwork.comHe’s one of the lesser-known top paid players in Major League Baseball for the past few years. Vernon Wells. For the past three years he has been the second highest paid player overall ($24,187,500), trailing behind the notoriously highest paid Alex Rodriguez ($30 million). Only paid a few million less than Arod but his name is less seen in the tabloids...

Yankees' lineup has pitcher batting eighth

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi is batting starting pitcher David Phelps eighth in their lineup Wednesday night instead of the more traditional ninth spot in an interleague game against Colorado. Girardi took the unusual step to help protect his left-handed heavy lineup against a Rockies bullpen filled with left-handed relievers. The Rockies are starting right-hander Juan...

Joe Girardi Thinking Outside The Box Has Yankees Winning

On Wednesday night, Joe Girardi batted David Phelps eighth in the lineup ahead of rookie Austin Romine. The part I have never seen the Yankees do in any World Series game or interleague matchup was the pitcher batting ahead of the catcher. Of course, it’s not unprecedented, and that drew the ire of some critics. Tony LaRussa made a living on batting the pitcher eighth and many...

Fan at Rockies’ Game Makes Slick Grab With His Hat

Vernon Wells jacked a two-run home run to deep left field during the top of the first to give the Yankees an early 2-0 lead, but that wasn’t even the most impressive part of the play. A single fan was sitting out in left and smoothly snagged the home run ball in his hat. He casually stood there accepting praise for the grab and brushed a little dirt off of his shoulders in the...

Yankees 3, Rockies 2

Pinch-hitter Brennan Boesch hit a tiebreaking infield single with the bases loaded in the ninth off closer Rafael Betancourt and the New York Yankees snapped a five-game skid at Coors Field with a 3-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night. Vernon Wells had a two-run homer in the first and scored the decisive run when third baseman Nolan Arenado couldn't throw out...
