From George King:CC Sabathia will throw his first bullpen session since going on the disabled list today and said he believes he will return Friday in Cleveland.
While manager Joe Girardi would certainly welcome the Yankees’ staff ace back to the rotation the first day Sabathia is eligible, he is waiting to see how the big left-hander does during workouts .
“I will do a...
The Yankees will send David Phelps to the mound today in game two of a three-game set against the Boston Red Sox. Phelps has faced the Red Sox twice this year, both times in a relief role. He allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings with five strikeouts. The 25-year-old is filling for the injured C.C. Sabathia, who is on the 15-day disabled list with a sore left elbow.
While he is already a lock for the Baseball Hall of Fame as soon as he is eligible, New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter continues to add to his legacy by adding another milestone in last night’s victory over the Boston Red Sox.
In the fifth inning, Jeter hit one of five solo Yankees’ home runs in a 6-4 win over Boston, and this one was special.
It was the 250th...
New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter's solo homer in the bottom of the fifth inning Friday against the visiting Boston Red Sox was his 250th of his career. Jeter joins Craig Biggio, Rickey Henderson and Willie Mays as the only players in major league history with 3,000 hits, 300 steals and 250 homers. Jeter's homer tied the game 4-4.
Andruw Jones was once one of the greatest defensive outfielders in baseball history. While the Gold Glove is an inherently flawed award, for reference sake, Jones at one point in his career won 10 straight for his work in center field. Now 35, Jones has been relegated to playing left field in a part-time role with the Yankees. Apparently with good reason after losing a fly ball in...
Nick Swisher was making it rain on Friday night -- in a baseball sense. The Yankees first baseman blasted two home runs off Red Sox pitching, two out of five home runs launched by the Bronx Bombers as they lived up to their billing. All of the blasts were of the solo variety, so the damage could have been much worse, but it was damage enough. NESN Nation's Dan Duquette is upset...
Texas Rangers 10 — New York Yankees 6
The bullpen surrendered 6 runs in the 10-6 loss to the Texas Rangers.
Ivan Nova had two brief instances in which he struggled through his 5.2 innings. Nova gave up 2 runs early on a two-run single by Adrian Beltre. He ran into trouble in the 3rd inning when the bases were loaded with no outs on a Mike Olt double and two walks. Nova was...
New York Yankees outfielder Andruw Jones lost a Josh Hamilton fly ball in the sun at Yankee stadium on Thursday.
This happens occasionally, even in the majors.
What doesn’t normally happen is the player hitting the ground in a heap and staying there after misplaying the ball. Glad to see those sunglasses help.
The Yankees took down the Red Sox 6-4 tonight. However, the real story is about the fireworks Yankee hitters provided.
Derek Jeter, the first-ballot hall of famer, just added to his legend by hitting career homerun number 250. That homerun put him in a very, very limited group. The only other player to ever have 3,000 hits, 250 homeruns, 300 steals and 1,200 RBIs is The Say Hey...
Yankees vs. Rangers Post Game Recap 8/15
The Yankees were able overcome a long rain delay to get their third straight win over the Texas Rangers beating them 3-2.
Freddy Garcia was very good against the frightening Texas lineup in earning his 7th win of the season. Garcia went 6.2 innings allowing four hits, one walk, two runs, and had six strikeouts. The only runs Texas was able...
Ryan Lavarnway sat out the last three games after playing four in a row. He'll be back in there Saturday against David Phelps and the Yankees. Lavarnway will bat sixth for the Red Sox, who have lost three of their last four, including Friday night's series opener. The 25-year-old enters Saturday's contest with a .125 average (9-for-39) in 17 games this season. Nick Punto...
NEW YORK -- Dustin Pedroia rounded first, then stopped, hopping up and down in frustration, as he suddenly had no chance to keep moving forward. Neither did the struggling Boston Red Sox for another night as New York Yankees center fielder Curtis Granderson caught Pedroia's eighth-inning bid for a game-tying, second home run at the warning track. Instead, Nick Swisher'...
NEW YORK -- After dropping the first three games of their series against fellow top American League contender New York Yankees, the Texas Rangers survived a wild, back-and-forth game to salvage the finale Thursday. Texas eventually prevailed with a 10-6 win at Yankee Stadium, after blowing an early 4-0 lead. The Rangers pounded out 16 hits, with eight players providing at least...
8 a.m.: The Red Sox fell victim to the long ball on Friday night, dropping a game to the Yankees following five solo home runs off the bats of the Bronx Bombers. Franklin Morales was victimized by the New York bats en route to a 6-4 loss. But on Saturday Jon Lester will be on the mound, looking to continue with the solid form he showed when striking out 12 earlier in the week. The...
