Meric/Getty Images) New York Yankees 2 — Tampa Bay Rays 7   A rare bad start by Hiroki Kuroda in tonight’s 7-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. The Yankees got behind the speed of Brett Gardner for the offense tonight. He would start the game with a walk and would steal second base during Curtis Granderson’s at-bat. Granderson would fly out to center field and Gardner advanced to third. Robinson Cano would strike out swinging but Alfonso Soriano would succeed, hitting a ground ball single to right field when the Rays’ infield was shifted to the left. The Yankees had a one-run lead and Hiroki Kuroda would have one of the worst starts of his fantastic season. With two on and two out, catcher Jose Lobaton hit a three-run home run high off the right field foul pole to give the Rays a 3-1 lead. After a walk to start the third inning, Kuroda would induce a double play to erase that. Unfortunately the next batters would go back-to-back on Kuroda with Evan Longoria and Matt Joyce each hitting home runs. David DeJesus would score on a Jose Lobaton single in the fourth inning and Ben Zobrist would join the long ball party in the fifth inning. Kuroda would be able to get through six innings but the damage was some of the worst off of Kuroda. In six innings, Hiroki Kuroda allowed a season-high seven runs on nine hits while walking on and striking out three. The four home runs that Kuroda allowed is a career-high. Bad timing to set highs in bad categories but any stellar season has a bump in the road. The Yankees had a hard time solving Rays starter Chris Archer. Brett Gardner was hit on the right hand in the third inning but in the sixth inning, he got the offense started again. He hit a deep fly ball to left center that center fielder Desmond Jennings couldn’t run down and the speedy Yankees center fielder slid into third with a lead off triple. Curtis Granderson would unproductively pop out in foul territory on the first pitch following the triple but Robinson Cano would ground out to bring home Gardner. Brett Gardner would try to get the offense going with a single to lead off the eighth inning but with one out he was caught flat footed off of first base and got picked off. Two hits, two runs, a stolen base, a pitch off his hand and two outs made at first base; a mixed bag of results for the spark plug of the Yankees offense.   Win – Chris Archer (7-5) Loss – Hiroki Kuroda (11-9)   Notables Yankees *Brett Gardner – 2 for 4, 2 R, BB, 3B *Alfonso Soriano – 1 for 4, RBI (80) Rays *Jose Lobaton – 2 for 3, R, 3-Run Home Run (6) in the 2nd, 4 RBI (27) *Matt Joyce – 2 for 4, 2 R, Solo Home Run (17) in the 3rd, RBI (42)   Current Yankees Record: 68-60   Get your Yankees Tickets from our friends at TiqIQ.

After getting blasted in Tampa Bay, New York Yankees ace Hiroki Kuroda is no longer a Cy Young award candidate.

Struggling New York Yankees ace Hiroki Kuroda surrendered seven runs over six innings in a 7-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night. Managing to keep the ball in the park since June 30, the 38-year-old Kuroda (11-9, 2.71 ERA) yielded four homers to Tampa Bay. Now owning only the fourth smallest ERA amongst American League starters, the Japanese sensation is no longer a legitimate...

The grocery store was changed from Pena Grocery to A-Rod Grocery thirteen years ago while the third baseman was still playing with the Seattle Mariners. Rodriguez eventually came to join the Yankees and patrons at the store soon believed that Rodriguez may even had a owners stake in the place. Instead the store is owned by 41-year...

Is Ichiro Suzuki Hall of Fame Material?

Even before New York Yankees' outfielder Ichiro Suzuki reached on a single on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, discussions began about what that hit would do for the Japanese sensation's chances of enshrinement into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. The hit itself was nothing significant, but he did it in classic Ichiro fashion: a single (off Toronto's R.A. Dickey...

Report: Alex Rodriguez was given a standing offer of a 150 game suspension by MLB

When we last left the Alex Rodriguez circus, we learned that Rodriguez was willing to accept an 80-100 game suspension, and then retire when his suspension was served. All because Rodriguez wants most, if not all the money remaining on his Yankees contract. Since then Rodriguez has vowed to refrain from discussing all non-baseball matters. But that hasn’t stopped those close to...

Derek Jeter played what should be his final rehab game last night for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre going 1-for-3 with a throwing error in seven innings against Pawtucket. He is expected to travel today and meet the Yankees tomorrow in Toronto. “That’s the plan” manager Joe Girardi said before the Yankees lost to Tampa Bay 4-2. Jeter said after his second Triple-A rehab...

Jeter returns to Yankees' lineup

Derek Jeter was dealing with plenty of emotions as he prepared for his latest return to the New York Yankees' lineup. "Excited, looking forward to it, anxious, happy," Jeter said. "What else could you have?" Jeter was activated off the disabled list before New York's game Monday at Toronto, starting at shortstop and batting second against the Blue Jays...

Alex Rodriguez tells his lawyers to stop threatening New York Yankees

Alex Rodriguez is hoping for the best possible outcome in his appeal of a 211-game suspension for performance-enhancing drug use. He has hired an All-Star team of lawyers than includes top New York criminal defense attorney Joe Tacopina. Since Tacopina came on board, A-Rod’s situation has become about far more than his alleged involvement with […]

Pete Rose: Ichiro will never surpass career hit total

On Wednesday, New York Yankees outfielder Ichiro Suzuki joined an elite club by notching his 4,000th career hit in professional baseball. It is certainly no small feat to record that many hits over a career even if about one-third of them were amassed while playing in Japan. In fact, Ichiro recorded 1,278 hits in Japan's top baseball league, with the other 2,722 coming...

Ichiro Reaches Musial Numbers

The New York Yankees’ outfielder, Ichiro Suzuki, reaches an amazing plateau last night. With a single to left field, Ichiro had his 4,000th hit of his professional career.  That’s a number that has only been accomplished in Major League Baseball by two individuals, Pete Rose and Ty Cobb.  The problem is, Ichiro did not reach that level in the big leagues. The 4,000 hits of...

Yankees' Brett Gardner's X-rays show hand is fine

Yankee fans should breathe a heavy sigh of relief that Brett Gardner's hand is not broken. On Saturday, the Yankees sent Gardner for precautionary X-Rays after the center fielder took a pitch off the hand in the third inning of Friday night's loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Gardner finished the game, but the Yankees -- in light of their myriad of injuries this year -- wanted...
