Report: Michael Pineda is throwing gas again

There has been nothing but bad news for the New York Yankees this Spring. They currently have about $90 million on the disabled list, and they really aren’t sure when any of them are coming back. One of those players is Michael Pineda, the prized haul from last year’s offseason trade with the Seattle Mariners. You may remember that Pineda never made one appearance with the Yankees...

Yankees: Seattle’s ex-pitching prince Pineda

It was about 18 months ago that the Yankees traded top prospect Jesus Montero for Mariners pitching phenom Michael Pineda. Michael Pineda (Photo credit: Wikipedia) Pineda arrived to Spring Training with a bum shoulder that required surgery, which has barred him from throwing his first pitch in the Bronx. Well that is all about to change, as GM Brian Cashman told ESPN New York that...

Lyle Overbay is a pleasure to watch, and one of these days, we are really going to miss him

In March, when the Retrieval Empire cashed in its Raleigh Coupons and signed Lyle Overbay, the wheels in every blogsmith's mind began to rotate. We said to ourselves, "Let the hilarity ensue!"Lyle O-for-three... Lyle Overmatched... Lyle NoCanPlay... You don't get enough names like that. (We never imagined Chien-Ming Wang was on the way.) The best part was that...

Mickey Mantle’s alleged corked bat to be auctioned off

While there is zero evidence tht a corked bat actually helps a batter to hit a ball further, there are still people out there that believe it makes a different. New York Yankees Hall of Fame centerfielder Mickey Mantle, the greatest player ever in all of sports that never actually reached his full potential, allegedly used a corked bat sometime during his career during the 1960s...

Yankees: Champions are winners not survivors

Old? MAYDAY…survivors or MAY DAY winners? The oldest; the average age is 31.9 years. Injured? A DL (disabled list) that reads like an All-Star roster – Jeter, A-Rod, Grandy, Tex, Youks, Cervelli, Nova, and Pineda. Expectations? Exceeding. This team was projected to fall down, not rise up. So far the New York Yankees are not the big disappointments everyone, myself included...

Joba heads to the disabled list

Another one bites the dust. In a season unlike any in recent memory, another Yankee is heading to the disabled list – this time it’s reliever Joba Chamberlain. Chamberlain, 27, has been diagnosed with a strained oblique, according to Daniel Barbarisi of the Wall Street Journal. The move is retroactive to April 28. New York Yankees Trade For Chris Nelson

The New York Yankees made a minor move, acquiring infielder Chris Nelson from the Colorado Rockies who had recently been designated for assignment. Colorado will receive either cash or a player to be named later. He is most likely a stop-gap for Kevin Youkilis who just went on the disabled list. Once the Yankees roster is healthy, Nelson can become more of a utility player if they...
