Yankees get jump on Twins with Game 1 victory

Derek Jeter added to his October resume Wednesday night, homering and getting on base four times, as the New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins 7-2 in Game 1 of their ALDS at Yankee Stadium. CC Sabathia pitched 6 2/3 innings in his Yankees postseason debut to earn the win. Phil Hughes, Phil Coke, Joba Chamberlain and Mariano Rivera combined to get the final seven outs. Alex Rodriguez temporarily silenced his critics with a pair of RBIs singles. Minnesota was playing less than 24 hours after clinching the AL Central in a memorable tiebreaker against the Detroit Tigers.
