Yankees infielder Jayson Nix has broken his left hand, the result of being hit by a pitch from Toronto's R.A. Dickey.
Nix was hit by a pitch from the knuckleballer in the second inning Wednesday night. He went to first base and stayed for one pitch before leaving. Mark Reynolds pinch ran.
Nix has filled in nicely for the Yankees through a season beset by injuries, including to All-Stars Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira. He was making his 32nd start this season at third base and has started 41 times at shortstop.
Nix hit a tying homer in the seventh and a walk-off single in the ninth Tuesday in the second game of a doubleheader sweep.
He's hitting .236 with three homers and 24 RBIs.

AND SO IT CONTINUES
it is now being reported that Alex Rodriguez's attorneys are preparing a medical malpractice lawsuit against New York Yankees team doctor Chris Ahmad.
Derek Jeter is the modern day Captain America. Everybody loves him and he can do no wrong. Recent reports have Jeter allegedly engaged to SI model Hannah Davis, possibly forming the last double play combination Jeter will ever know. If true this is shocking news. It is the acting worlds equivalent of George Clooney settling down with one lady or Hugh Hefner with just one bunny...
Derek Jeter will participate in his second simulated game today for the Yankees, but will incorporate running the bases for the first time since he was sidelined earlier this month with a calf-strain.
Manager Joe Girardi will not reveal what the plan moving forward is for the 39-year-old captain and did not confirm or deny if he’ll be ready for this weekend’s series against the...

On Wednesday, New York Yankees outfielder Ichiro Suzuki joined an elite club by notching his 4,000th career hit in professional baseball. It is certainly no small feat to record that many hits over a career even if about one-third of them were amassed while playing in Japan. In fact, Ichiro recorded 1,278 hits in Japan's top baseball league, with the other 2,722 coming while playing...
The latest entry in the long-running series in which Brian Cashman discusses the current state of the New York Yankees. With his headwarmer.
Cashman: I’ve been thinking a lot about Dempster hitting A-Rod.
Headwarmer: Thinking? That’s not like you, Bri.
Cashman: It just doesn’t make sense to me. A-Rod has been living in his own reviled bubble for so long. Why would the Sox want...

In case you haven't heard, football is back at Yankee Stadium. It's too bad Joba Chamberlain doesn't know that the season doesn't start for a couple of weeks.
The Yankees reliever lost his footing while applying a tag to Jose Reyes that nearly knocks the Blue Jays shortstop over during the first game the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader.
Maybe the struggling...
Well here’s a sentence I never thought I would type: Alfonso Soriano is the hard hittin’est of them all. And it’s hardly a sentence because there’s a word in there that isn’t in the English language (unless you speak Diamond Hogger).
Starting one calendar week ago today, Soriano had one of the biggest weeks in baseball history; and one that is worthy of him being named...
Only Pete Rose (4,683), Ty Cobb (4,357), Hank Aaron (4,095), and Stan Musial (4,001) have ever collected 4,000 hits at the professional level. They were joined today by New York Yankees outfielder Ichiro Suzuki. Suzuki slapped a single in the first inning tonight for his 4,000 hit against Blue Jays pitcher R.A. Dickey.
Suzuki of course collected some of these hits in professional...
