Although he will not play again this year, New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira has some good news. On Monday, June 1, Teixeira had successful surgery to repair the torn tendon sheath in his right wrist. Late Tuesday morning, he tweeted the news and his joy in how well the surgery went. Successful surgery yesterday, doc said it couldn't have gone better. Looking forward to watching my #Yankee teammates tonight vs the Twins. — Mark Teixeira (@teixeiramark25) July 2, 2013 This sentiment is far more positive than his comments from a June 26 press conference, in which Teixeira understandably proclaimed disappointment in having to miss the rest of the season. Said Teixeira then, "It's very tough, especially in a season where the team could probably use me. We've had some really, really good teams the last few years, and this year, we have a great team, and I would love to be a part of this team. I really would've loved to be part of hopefully what's a playoff run, but when you realize that it's not going to happen, it's very difficult."  Teixeira played in just 15 games from May 31 to June 15 after missing the beginning of the season with the wrist problem. Pain did not subside even after cortisone shots, so he and the Yankees decided to have the wrist repaired now so he will be ready for next season. Teixeira projects to be 100% healthy in approximately six months, which dates to right around New Year's Day. This timing gives him a chance to prepare for Spring Training in 2014. He still has three years and $67.5 million left on his contract, and the Yankees want him as healthy as possible. Even though Lyle Overbay has played well in Teixeira's stead, it is very unlikely that the Yankees will resign Overbay for another season. Follow Raymond on Twitter @RayBureau. When Robinson Cano is going well, he often looks like the best pure hitter in the game. His ability to spray line drives all over the field with ease and with such a pretty swing makes him one of the most enjoyable players to watch. We’re no stranger to his hot streaks; coming down the stretch last season, Cano was on another planet – going 27-for-60 (.491) with three homers...

Struggling with command, Michael Pineda may still become the Yankees’ hero in Gotham

Battling command issues over three innings on Sunday, New York Yankees flamethrower Michael Pineda surrendered four runs and four walks in a rehab appearance with Double-A Trenton. Throwing only 32 of 67 pitches for strikes, the 24-year-old Pineda clearly endured the most ineffective outing of his comeback. Nevertheless, consistently hitting 93 mph on the radar, the 6-foot-7, 260...

Robinson Cano key in Yankees' streak versus Twins

MINNEAPOLIS -- The seemingly depleted New York Yankees lineup is currently without Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson, Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez.
