The New York Yankees needed pitching help. What do they do? In a trade with the Seattle Mariners, the Yankees stole one of the best, young pitching prospects in all of baseball. Michael Pineda, who showed dynamite stuff as a rookie last season, heads to New York, while Jesus Montero was sent to Seattle. While Montero is a good hitting prospect, he will likely be forced to be a designated hitter. Why give up a stud pitcher for a designated hitter? That’s what Mariners fans are asking tonight. The Yankees, on the other hand, now have a stud pitcher to put alongside CC Sabathia and Ivan Nova. The two teams also swapped pitching prospects, with Hector Noesi going to the Mariners and Jose Campos going to the Yankees. Get this: Campos is thought to be the better prospect. So not only did the Yankees rip off the Mariners in the main swap, they put a cherry on top. Good going, Seattle. Michael Pineda will be a stud for the Yankees (Image: TSN.ca) Post from: EveryJoe

Mariners - Acquired Montero

Seattle Mariners acquire C Jesus Montero for P Michael Pineda and P Jose Campos ZiPS projected Montero at .271/.333/.486 in Yankee Stadium. Good enough for a 112 OPS+. He’s going to a much tougher place to hit, so the raw stat line is not going to be nearly as pretty to get the same value. Let’s put it this way. Justin Smoak (a name not chosen at random of course) put...
