MLB Trade Rumors:
TEAMS:
Boston Red Sox
Earlier this week, it was reported that both the Yankees and Red Sox were pursuing free agent starter Hiroki Kuroda despite luxury tax concerns. However, baseball sources tell Wallace Matthews of ESPNNewYork.com that the Bombers are unlikely to make a bid for the soon-to-be 37-year-old.
Kuroda seeks a deal that will pay him roughly $12-$13MM per season, which translates to something closer to $17MM when factoring in the 40 percent luxury tax charge. Even though the Yankees do like Kuroda, a Yankees source told Matthews that the club simply doesn't have room in the budget for him. Wallace writes that the Yankees' reported interest in the veteran is likely designed to drive the price up for Boston.
This morning, prior to this report, nearly 28% of MLBTR readers voted the Yankees as the most likely destination for Kuroda.

Bob McClure's Conversion From Reliever to Starter During Playing Days Could Ease Daniel Bard's Transition
Daniel Bard will be the wild card heading into spring training. After posting 34 holds and limiting opposing hitters to a .179 batting average in 2011, the reliever is determined to make a transition to the starting rotation. The 26-year-old hasn't pitched in that role since 2007. That season, he struggled during his 22 starts between Single-A Greenville and High-A Lancaster...
Matt Garza, Hiroki Kuroda Among Available Pitchers Who Could Attract Red Sox
A year ago, the Red Sox rotation was firmly secure. With Jon Lester, John Lackey, Clay Buchholz, Josh Beckett and Daisuke Matsuzaka -- three of the five recorded at least 14 wins in 2010 -- headlining the staff, there was little apprehension. One year later, holes abound. After Matsuzaka and Lackey underwent Tommy John surgery, a procedure that will cost Lackey the season and Matsuzaka...
David Ortiz Player Projection No. 109
Key Stats: Merry Christmas from all of us at Fantasy Baseball 365. David Ortiz was not on too many teams wish lists as an aging designated hitter, but neither was Rudolph as a reindeer with a different nose. This one trick reindeer has it down to a science. In the last three years Ortiz has averaged 29 home runs and 99 RBI. He is not showing signs of getting radically worse even...

Send NESN.com Red Sox Reporter Didier Morais a Question for His Weekly Mailbag
The Red Sox are sure to be under the microscope after last season's collapse. But the team's strength and conditioning team will also shoulder the ramifications and endure heavier scrutiny in 2012. After the pitching staff's conditioning was called into question in September, it caused a ripple effect within the organization. During his teleconference on Friday, manager...

Sox Rotation
The Red Sox starting rotation, as most fans would agree, is still up in the air. The only sure things seems to be Josh Beckett and John Lester. Clay Bucholz also may qualify, but he is coming off a long-term injury. I do not believe John Lackey should start the year in the rotation. Off his work in the last two seasons, he deserves to begin as a middle reliever and spot starter,...
