After dropping the final two games of the three-game series, the Mets won themselves few supporters on this Monday. While the Yanks received a pat on the back for not getting swept in May's Subway Series, the Mets are getting pounded in the media today. According to the Daily News' Mark Feinsand, "The Yankees and Mets finished the weekend Subway Series heading in the same direction in which they started it: on opposite tracks." Yet while the double-standard is striking, the Mets are well-deserving of the criticism they're receiving. The middle of the Mets lineup has become a black hole with Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado reaching for new levels of ineptitude at the plate. It took a shutout performance from Perez to bail out the Mets' bats on Friday night. And while Chien-Ming Wang was brilliant for the Yanks on Sunday, El Duque followed Tom Glavine's Saturday stinker with a foul-smelling outing of his own.
