The New York Yankees have no interest in Houston Astros lefthander Wandy Rodriguez, whom reportedly will clear waivers Tuesday. The Yankees may have had an interest in Rodriguez prior to the July 31 trade deadline but were unable to work a deal. ESPN.com reported Monday that the team has no interest in acquiring the lefthander for the stretch run. The Yankees hold a half-game lead over Boston atop the American League East and currently have six healthy starting pitchers. Adding Rodriguez without trading one of their starters would only further complicate matters. SI.com reported Monday that Rodriguez is expected to clear waivers Tuesday. He has a prohibitive contract that pays him $10 million in 2012 and $13 million in 2013 with a $14 million vesting option in 2014. After July 31, players must clear waivers in order to be traded. Rodriguez is 9-9 with a 3.31 ERA for the last-place Astros and has won at least nine games in each of his seven seasons.
