INSIDER: The Yankees completed a four-game series sweep, who won their seventh straight game and increased their lead in the AL East to 6 1/2 games over the Sox. What a comeback!

ON THE MOUND:

Andy Pettitte started, had a high pitch count early on but was able to over come that and pitch a beautiful game in the Bronx. 7 shutout innings is what Pettitte gave the Yankees allowing just 5 hits, walking two and striking out 4. He got past trouble in the fourth inning, as Boston loaded the bases on singles by Jason Bay and J.D. Drew, plus a walk to Mike Lowell. Jason Varitek ripped a line drive to left field, but Johnny Damon jumped and snagged the ball to leave all three Sox players on base. Pettitte 1threw 112 pitches and 68 or strikes.

The Yanks held the Red Sox scoreless for 24 innings heading into the series finale and overall 31 scoreless until Victor Martinez hit a two-run homer off Phil Coke in the top half of the 8th. It was Boston's first runs since the ninth inning on Thursday. At the time it was a big momentum shift and looked like the Sox had this game but the Yanks fought back

Mariano Rivera notched down his 32nd save of the year out of 33 chances.

THE OFFENSE:

Alex Rodriguez gave the Yankees the lead against Boston starter Jon Lester with career home run No. 574 in the seventh inning, moving him past Harmon Killebrew for sole possession of ninth place on baseball's all-time list.

In the 8th down 2-1, Johnny Damon's solo shot tied the game. Mark Teixeira then crushed a pitch high over the right-field wall, carrying his bat down the first base line and tossing it aside as he celebrated.

Nick Swisher who in the AB thought reached base with a HBP, added a two-run single off Hideki Okajima.
